Liverpool mount comeback to beat Wolves as Robertson and Gakpo on target

Andy Robertson suggested that emotions were running high in the Molineux dressing room at half-time after Liverpool's dismal first half showing at Wolves.

Asked what was said at half-time by TNT Sports, Robertson said: "I can tell you some of it, but probably not all of it. Look, we can come up with all sorts of excuses about players flying halfway around the world and then having the early kick-off but it was just a poor first half.

"They were the better team, they created the better chances and we were making too many mistakes. But in the second half, we came out and changed the formation slightly, and had people pushing higher up the pitch."

Andy Robertson, Liverpool's captain for the day, struck a crucial goal as the Reds came from a goal down to win at Wolves.

With Virgil van Dijk suspended and Trent Alexander-Arnold injured, the Scot - who endured a miserable evening when Scotland lost to England in midweek - captained the side and popped up from a Mo Salah pass to strike for the Reds late on, with substitute Harvey Elliott later seeing his effort go in off Hugo Bueno for a third.

Wolves had dominated the first half and took a deserved early lead through Hwang Hee-chan, with the hosts missing a glorious chance to double their lead through Matheus Cunha.

A disjointed Liverpool drastically improved in the second period, and levelled when Salah's cross was turned in by Cody Gakpo, before Robertson and Bueno's own goal won it in the final five minutes.

It's three points for Liverpool thanks to a superb second-half showing from Klopp's men.

Hwang gave Wolves the lead, before Gakpo and Robertson turned the game on its head, and then a Bueno own-goal wrapped up the win for Liverpool, who now top of the Premier League table.

Excellent once again from Neto.

The winger pounces on a mistake and runs beyond the Wolves back-line and into the box. But Mac Allister does well to win the ball back.

End-to-end

There is an end-to-end feel to this one now as neither side can keep hold of the ball.

Liverpool had a chance to break through Szoboszlai but he gave the ball away, before Wolves then gifted possession straight back.

Another dangerous cross finds Neto at the back post but he is unable to get the required connection on his effort, while Bellgarde continues to drive into dangerous positions.

Crouch's embarrassing fall

Peter Crouch has embarrassed himself live TV by falling over while attempting to hit the crossbar with a ball.

Ahead of kick-off, Crouch and ex-England winger Joe Cole were tasked with kicking a ball from the edge of the box onto the crossbar. Cole went first and, although he missed the target, he retained his dignity.

Crouch, however, was a different matter. The 6ft 7in striker wandered up to the ball with confidence as presenter Lydnsey Hipgrave offered a supportive "Go on Crouchy!". Things went immediately downhill thereafter.

The 42-year-old's standing leg slipped on the Molineux turf as his not-football-appropriate trainers gave way in dramatic effect. Crouch ended up face down on the floor, with the microphone on his hand providing an amplified thud for the viewers at home.

Klopp's Premier League demand

Jurgen Klopp has argued that TV companies don’t care about player welfare after his side were given another punishing early kick-off on their return from international duty.

Liverpool had six 12.30pm Saturday starts last season and didn't win a single one of them, taking just three points from 18 - and Klopp described the situation as "a joke".

The German boss pointed to the fact that he faces another early Premier League game, with his large South American contingent returning from international duty on Friday morning, just a couple of hours before the squad departed for the visit to Wolves.

Klopp said on Friday: "If I say a word about it then the world says, 'He's moaning again'. It is a joke. We had four players in South America who I haven't even seen yet. In 24 hours we play Wolves.

"We have four international breaks by March and for two of them we already have the 12.30 kick-off (immediately afterwards). But we cannot change it. We will never change that, whoever we talk to.

"Now the TV channel has a different name, but obviously it doesn't change anything at all. They don't give a… so why should I talk about that? We didn't think about it."

Robertson skippers Liverpool

Andy Robertson has been given the captain's armband on his 200th appearance for Liverpool in the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

With captain Van Dijk suspended and vice-captain Alexander-Arnold out injured, duties have fallen to Robertson after he skippered Scotland over the international break.
