Bobby Brazier might be one of the early favourites to win Strictly Come Dancing this year - but anyone placing actual bets on the EastEnders star making it all the way to the final might want to reconsider their actions as he has admitted he’s never watched the show and has done nothing to prepare to be on it.

The 20-year-old actor is the child of 44-year-old Shipwrecked reality star Jeff Brazier and the late Big Brother contestant Jade Goody - who died in 2009 aged 27 after battling cancer. Bobby was unveiled as one of the fifteen celebs taking part in the 2023 season of Strictly earlier this summer - and fans will finally learn who he has been paired with when the show returns to screens on Saturday night.

But while reports have raged that Bobby is an early favourite to win, and that Strictly professionals have been squabbling over who should be paired with him, the rising star has himself confessed to never watching the show. Bobby says he has been waiting for BBC bosses to call him to take part in the series, but explained he’s never actually watched the show before.

Asked what made him want to take part, the actor gushed: “I was always going to say yes, whether it was this year, last year, the next year because I love dancing. That's it – whether it was on TV or not, the opportunity to dance with a professional dancer, and learn a different style of dancing every week is just my idea of a good time.”

But when asked ‘Are there any memorable or standout moments for you, from previous series?’ the actor unashamedly answered: “I’ve never watched the show, so I’ll be coming in fresh!” Bobby also explained he doesn’t have prior dance experience, explaining: “I just love dancing so if I'm at a party, I dance, if I’m at home I dance...I’m always dancing.”

As questions continued, Bobby went on to reveal he has done nothing to prepare himself for the live shows. He said: “I've done absolutely nothing. These dancers are the fittest people I've ever met, they're like, robots – dancing machines! Maybe I'll start stretching a little bit. As far as dancing, my whole life has been a preparation – I'm not a trained dancer but I love to dance.”

And while he does hold hope of lifting the glitterball trophy himself, Bobby says there is one person he thinks could defeat him in the contest. He said: “Eddie [Kadi]! His hips do not lie. He is great, he's brilliant and he's sweet too!”

Season 21 of Strictly Come Dancing begins on BBC One on Saturday night with the special one hour and forty minute launch show - kicking off at 6:35pm.
