Britney Spears has claimed that her favourite award show is the MTV Video Music Awards, despite missing the big event this year. The Toxic singer took to Instagram to reminisce over the awards and the "great times" she's had on the iconic stage.

She told her 42.1m followers: "One of my favourite award shows has always been the @vmas !!! I had so many great times on that stage," before adding that she was once called the "Queen of MTV."

"I’ve even been called the “Queen of @mtv," she wrote followed by a series of smirking emojis. Britney then teased the release of her tell-all biography, The Woman In Me, which is due on October 24th: "I can’t wait to share more VMAs and other award show memories in #TheWomanInMe on Oct. 24 !!!"

Back in August, Britney Spears promised to lay bare her tumultuous life “on her terms”, even if the effort has come at the cost of lots of counselling. In a video post on social media, she said: “OK, guys I just got finished with my book, it’s coming out very, very soon.

“I worked my ass off for this book, I had a lot of therapy to get this book done, so you guys better like it. And if you don’t, that’s cool too.” The singer, 41, added now The Woman in Me had been finished, she would be heading to the Bahamas.

A video announcing the memoir, which will be published by Gallery Books on October 24, added: “It’s coming, my story, on my terms, at last. Are you ready?”

The book will cover her battle to end her 2008-2021 conservatorship, which had allowed her father Jamie Spears to control her freedom and finances. Jennifer Bergstrom, of Gallery Books, said: “Britney’s compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery. I’ve no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact – and will be the publishing event of the year. We couldn’t be more proud to help her share her story at last.”

The Grammy winner will also open up about the power of music and love. In June last year, she married Sam Asghari at her Los Angeles home, with guests including Madonna and Drew Barrymore. The pair recently announced they had split after just one year of marriage.

Sam cited “irreconcilable differences” in his divorce filing and it's claimed that Britney is frantically rewriting her memoir to include the shock split. A source said: “To have such a major moment omitted from the book would be senseless. Her fans want to know what was behind the split.

“Britney is keen to ensure she takes control of the narrative, and there is no better way than to say what happened in her own words in her book.”
