Viewers have been watching My Mum, Your Dad star Roger Hawes look for someone to mend his broken heart after the devastation of losing his beloved wife only a year ago.

The 58-year-old postman from Derbyshire is one of the single parents taking part in Davina McCall's new ITV dating show after his daughter Jess, who appears on the show, his other daughter and son signed him up. Roger's wife and the mother of their three children Joanne passed away from cancer.

They married back in 1992 but her life was cut short in 2021 at the age of just 52. Until the moment that rocked his world, it seems like Roger had a pretty perfect life. He keeps his Instagram followers fully up to date with what's going on, last week letting his hair down in his BMW with his roof off - and his adorable cockapoo loving every second of it in the passenger seat.

He's clearly made the most of the summer, snapping himself on various beaches including Bournemouth and Portlethen in Scotland. Tattooed-dad Roger also showed off his very buff buff bod, proving he really does work out as he posed for a photo alongside his son and his friends on the seafront.

The family are clearly big Manchester United fans and they've been on some great trips, earlier this summer posting from Florence in Italy. He confessed he wasn’t ready to date when he first joined the dating show but went along with it to see what happened.

Roger opened up about the loss of his beloved wife, saying: "Following my wife passing 18 months ago, I didn’t really want to meet anyone. You don’t expect it to be you and you don’t expect it to be your wife. But I’m going on the show to get some confidence. I must have subconsciously wanted to meet someone by saying yes to the show."

He went on: "Half of my family are saying ‘yes’ to it, half are saying I’m not ready. But I know it’s something I don’t want to pass up on" before joking: "But I get to cuddle Davina! There’s an experience here that I don’t want to look back and think, ‘why didn’t you try it?’"

His daughter Jess explained why the time was right: The 28-year-old Network Rail Planner said: "It was a joint thing with my brother and sister and it was our way of basically telling him that we were happy for him to start dating, if that was something he wanted to do. It was about putting dad first.

"We’d never really thought about us, or about ourselves in that situation. I wasn’t thinking about how I’d react, I was thinking about him. "The reason for that is he does the same for us, he would always put family first. So it was just a way of saying to him, stop worrying about us. If he wasn’t ready, that was also totally fine. It wasn’t an ultimatum. It was just, if you want to, you can, don’t worry about us."

My Mum, Your Dad, continues on Tuesday at 9pm on ITV
