Cots, nappies, buggies and clothes. When you're pregnant it can feel like there is so much to buy in preparation for your little baby - particularly if they're your first. Except in Scotland they make things a little easier for expectant parents with a free baby box that every new mum is entitled to in the country.

One mum, Rachel Clenaghan, unboxed her free baby box on TikTok, which baffled many Brits who do not get the same service. "Every family in Scotland is entitled to a baby box free from the Scottish government. The actual box itself comes beautifully illustrated and I think the whole point is the younger family can decorate it for the new arrival", the mum explained. She also clarified that this box also doubles as a cot so that a baby could actually sleep in it, including a mattress that fits perfectly inside. "The point in the box is that every baby has the same start in life," she added.

Rachel showed that the contents of the box included a guide for how to breastfeed and sleep safely, a poem, and a voucher for reusable nappies. She noted that the nappies "were new" as she didn't get them with her other little boy, Junior.

The box also included bits for new mums like maternity and breast pads, as well as a playmat and tummy time book for the newborn. Books, teething toys, digital thermometers, and baby clothes that fit from 0-3 month and 3-6 month year old babies all featured in the brilliant box.

"If you're from Scotland you'll know this comforter, because they’re always on Facebook saying that they've gone missing and they're desperate to get them back", Rachel joked as she pointed to a yellow comforter.

Brits outside Scotland were amazed by this bumper box that helps mums, taking to the comments section to express their wonder. "Well done Scotland! We should have this in England. Just imagine how many babies that don't have a good start would benefit from this. Great idea!" One first time mum commented "England need to do this - so many mums struggle!"

The video received a global response, with many Americans also being amazed by the box. "If America did this I feel like parents - especially single moms - would have a way better start and wouldn’t have to worry and struggle as much," someone wrote.

One Chilean commenter said that in Chile they get "a pack and play crib, clothes, books, baby carrier, blanket and a lactation pillow. It's great", informing people that plenty of other countries have a similar ethos when it comes to new families.

Do you think this should be something the rest of the UK does? Let us know in the comments.
