Brock Purdy trolls Pittsburgh Steelers ace after threat falls flat in NFL opener
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy couldn't hide his delight after beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday following comments from Patrick Peterson.
The Niners ran out convincing winners on Sunday in the 30-7 win in Week One of the new NFL season. Purdy completed two touchdown passes with zero interceptions and 220 total passing yards.
It was a big win for the Niners on the road to begin their new season. Purdy in particular would have enjoyed getting the better of one opponent who spoke about him in the days leading up to the game.
Steelers cornerback Peterson spoke about Purdy where he predicted that he would make an interception in Sunday’s game. Peterson claimed that the Niners QB has “tell signs” in his game that enables him to predict where the quarterback is going to throw the football.
In the end, not only did Purdy not get intercepted during the game, but he also completed a touchdown pass and beat Peterson in the process. Purdy’s second touchdown pass to Brandon Aiyuk found the receiver, who beat Peterson to the ball in the endzone to complete the pass and the score.

After the game, Purdy spoke about the comments from Peterson and how it felt to score two touchdown passes. The Niners quarterback praised Aiyuk, but also could not hide his delight over the second touchdown pass.
"BA [Aiyuk] was open," Purdy told reporters after the game. "He did a great job on the route and [I] got him the ball, scored a touchdown.
“And then the second touchdown on the right side, the deep ball, was that on Patrick Peterson? That one, I was like, 'All right, that felt good’,” he said with a laugh.
"But it was good, man. He's a competitor. I have nothing but respect for Patrick Peterson and everything that he does."
Peterson was full of praise for the Niners offense when he spoke to reporters in the locker room after the game. The Steelers cornerback believes he had the chance to make interceptions but could not get them completed.
"It was there. I had an opportunity to get two picks," Peterson told reporters on Sunday. "I just didn't grab it in.
“But credit to those guys. Those guys did a great job of sticking to their game plan and really getting into their identity, which is run the football, misdirections, hit those bang-8s, hit those deep stops. We just weren't in a good enough position to make those plays."
