My Mum, Your Dad, hosted by Davina McCall, follows a group of singletons looking for their second chance at love while their children decide their parents' dating fate.

The brand new ITV series will play out across two weeks, with 10 hour-long episodes airing on weeknights, as audiences follow the group single parents living together on their quest for love.

Unbeknownst to the parents, after being dropped off, their children were taken to a nearby location to spy on their every move as well as having the opportunity to guide their parents through the dating process.

Davina's regret

The stalwart presenter revealed to the Mirror and other press, that she's been trying to "burn" the nickname for My Mum, Your Dad ahead of its premiere on Monday.

Davina explained that she originally pitched the idea of Love Island for an older generation for ITV Commissioning Editor Amanda Stavri but would very much like to move away from the title she coined. "It’s my fault that it got called Midlife Love Island - that’s what I called it in an email to Amanda. I’ve been trying to burn that name ever since!"

'Mortifying' twist

Host Davina explained why the children's involvement in their parents search for love sets this new ITV dating show part from others.

She said: "A few people have been asking you know why do the kids nominate their parents? But, I think that's what gives it the extra heart – watching their reactions to what their parents are going through and then supporting each other and then willing their parents to find someone. I thought one of the most moving things was this idea that as a child you can't move on with your life until you feel that your parent is happy and how hard that is for a child. This is what sets it apart, it's not cynical. It is just about the love, there's no prize money. The prize is love and also I think this idea that we're reframing midlife."

Davina confirmed the parents were "absolutely mortified" when they found out the truth about the role their children played in the process.

Frustrating moments

Davina revealed she found it tough not being able to interrupt dates and help the singletons during the process. She said: "Sometimes people misread something and that's quite frustrating because I'm outside watching something unfold and I'm like, ‘Please let me go in there.’

"And I’m told, ‘No, we’ve got to let it play out,’ so it's frustrating watching," she said before adding that she was allowed to break the rules on one occasion. "I don't know if it made it into the show or not because I haven't seen all the episodes because I wanted to save it but, there was a moment, once I did actually say to the production team, please let me just go talk to this person because they were having a proper crisis.

"This person was so lovely, and just could not see it for themselves. And had to go in and say, ‘We chose you because you are brilliant.’"

Brutal rejections

My Mum, Your Dad host Davina explained that many of the single parents are more cautious when it comes to taking risks and finding love again after having their heart broken. Teasing potential rejections, she said: "No-one really wants to take risks, and I think people are very nervous about being rejected. But I also think there are other good sides to it, you are a lot more likely to not mind making a fool of yourself."

Meanwhile, Davina teased that one of the contestants had to temporarily leave the retreat after becoming "terrified" during the process. The presenter revealed the single mum was unable to control her emotions during a discussion on intimacy. "She’s just terrified. You know, she’s terrified of being rejected, letting someone in, all of these things that again, I think we can all relate to at some point in our lives it’s just really scary."
