Soap fans are set to be disappointed tonight as they'll be forced to miss out on their final dose of Emmerdale and Coronation Street drama this week.

On Friday night, the two soaps will not air on ITV as usual due to a last-minute TV scheduling shake-up. The broadcaster has removed the shows to make way for the Rugby World Cup 2023 as France and New Zealand go head to head on the pitch, with the match starting at 6:45pm on ITV1.

Viewers will need to tune into the television next week as the schedule returns to normal. This week, fans were treated to an hour-long episode of Coronation Street on Thursday, September 7, and a full hour of Emmerdale on Tuesday, September 5.

In exciting episodes due to air on Coronation Street next week, tragedy strikes the cobbles as Stu Carpenter finds himself arrested. The scene takes place after he comes to blows with Eliza's estranged dad Dom and after the youngster is hit by a car on the road.

In upcoming scenes, Stu is left annoyed when Dom fails to show up for his daughter. The protective grandfather, in a fit of rage, explains to Eliza that if her dad cared about her at all, he wouldn’t continually let her down.

An upset Eliza then runs off into the road where she is knocked down by a car as the driver speeds away. Viewers will also witness Dee-Dee Bailey taken aback after she is asked out on a date by new duty solicitor Joel Deering, played by Hollyoaks star Calum Lill.

Meanwhile, in Emmerdale, Cathy Hope struggles in her life after being diagnosed with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. Fans will recall that Cathy has struggled with her mental health and physical symptoms for months. The teen has found herself lashing out, as well as suffering from painful and heavy periods.

Recently, Emmerdale fans were dealt a devastating blow after actor Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe, revealed he's leaving the ITV soap after 17 years. In his exit speech, the tearful soap star said: I am so nervous about leaving, nearly 20 years, almost two decades. It feels like the right time, the door has been left open - they're not killing me off, I've been promised. Who knows, I might be back [in the future]. Yeah, but we will see."
