Love Island star heartbroken over family death as he shares throwback photos
Love Island star Kai Fagan has been left heartbroken over a family death as he shared a series throwback photos on social media to announce the sad news.
The 25-year-old, who won the winter season of the ITV2 dating show with Sanam Harrinanan earlier this year, took to his Instagram Stories to reveal his beloved great nana had passed away. Posting a picture of the order of service from the funeral on Thursday, Kai wrote: “Rest in peace great nana, A long loved life.” The snap showed his close relative had died just a week short of her 100th birthday, and she was being laid to rest in Manchester, where Kai hails from. Another picture shared on his Stories showed him smiling while sitting next to his great nana and another relative.
Just a few days before the funeral, Kai was celebrating alongside Sanam at the National Television Awards, but fans were furious when they realised the couple, who had won the winter season earlier this year, were seated away from the other Love Islanders. In pictures shared on social media, it was revealed Kai and Sanam were at the edge of the arena that looked down on Molly Marsh, Zac Noble, Ella Thomas, Tyrique Hyde and summer winners Sammy Root and Jess Harding seated in the coveted VIP floor seats, alongside host Maya Jama.
Kai shared details of the funeral on social media
The heartbroken star shared a cute throwback snap in honour of his great nanaFans noticed Kai and Sanam's snub as one said: "You 2 should have been invited to the awards by ITV though since you won LI this year. Respect to the company that did show a pair of winners deserved love! Anyway, you 2 are amazing and blessed continue to win with each other." Another added: "Did they do the red carpet…can’t find any pictures ?" While someone else gushed: "A real life Disney prince and princess," and a fourth wrote: "Power couple." Despite the snub, Kai was over the moon to be invited to the star-studded bash, and heaped praise on his girlfriend in a sweet post.
"NTAs with this absolute spice, honestly she gets me so gassed every time I see her," he captioned a slideshow of snaps from the NTAs, and revealed tan brand Fake Bake had invited them as their guests to the awards ceremony. Sanam shared a similar post, as she thanked their fans for all their support. "Major pinch me moment. I cannot even believe I am here today surrounded by so much talent. It’s an actual dream and it’s because of every single one of you who supported me and Kai! I will forever be grateful," she wrote.

Alongside a snap of the 25-year-old wearing the stunning piece of jewellery, Kai explained: "A promise (ring). By the way guys it's a promise ring! The big one will come soon don't worry." Their fans were quick to comment on the post, and pleaded with the reality star to pop the question. "Got to be the most genuine couple to come out of Love Island," one wrote. "Love the ring you guys are great together can't wait to see what your engagement rings gonna be like," another added.
