Kate and William share heartbreaking message on anniversary of Queen's death
The Prince and Princess of Wales have released a heartbreaking statement about how they all miss the late Queen on the first anniversary of her death.
Taking to social media, they posted a carousel of pictures of the former monarch and wrote: "Today we remember the extraordinary life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth. We all miss you. W&C." The letters W and C denote the message is a personal one from William and Kate.
Among the snaps they shared in the social media post were a charming shot of the late Queen beaming as she meets a pack of corgis. Others included a photo taken by Kate just last year at Balmoral of the late monarch surrounded by her great-grandchildren and one of the Wales family alongside the Queen on the Buckingham Palace balcony at her Platinum Jubilee celebrations last year.
William and Kate also shared this family snap of the Queen (PA)Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, died peacefully at Balmoral, Aberdeenshire, on September 8 last year, aged 96, after reigning for 70 years. Her death was the moment her son and heir Charles became King, and the date will remain a poignant period for the head of state.
Today, William and Kate are also making an emotional pilgrimage to a cathedral in Wales to mark the first anniversary of her death. They are visiting communities in south Wales to kick start their autumn plans after the summer break and will be at St David's Cathedral.

They will then meet members of the local community in the adjacent cloister, including local people who met Elizabeth II during her visits to St Davids.
Royal sources suggested William and Kate chose to be in Wales, as they had only been three times in the last year and the Queen had a unique connection with St David's Cathedral. Since the early 1500s, one of the Quire Stalls has been in the possession of the Crown – named the Sovereign’s Stall. And as Sovereign, the late Queen held the First Canon Cursal Stall in the Quire among the Cathedral Chapter, and she took her place there on some of her four visits to the Cathedral. She was also the first monarch to visit the Cathedral since the Reformation.
Meanwhile, King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to mark the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death privately. They will not hold a private family gathering at their Balmoral estate to commemorate the passing of the late monarch and no public event is planned. Palace officials said Charles, 74, would choose to spend the anniversary “quietly and privately”, adding ”just as the late Queen did to mark her own father’s passing”.
Elizabeth II spent the anniversaries of her father's death, and the start of her reign, in what used to be termed "private reflection". She never publicly marked royal deaths and usually sent someone in her place. She traditionally stayed at her Sandringham estate in Norfolk until after the anniversary of her father George VI’s death, on February 6, following the Christmas and new year break.
However, the King and Queen will commemorate the life and service of Queen Elizabeth II with private prayers and a moment of reflection on the first anniversary of her death. Charles and Camilla, who are staying at their Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire, will attend nearby Crathie Kirk for the poignant event at the church where the late Queen worshipped.
