Jason Kelce suffered same injury as brother Travis but in strange circumstances
Jason Kelce has given his view on the knee injury sustained by his brother, Travis, and explained how he suffered the same in the past.
News emerged on Tuesday that Travis Kelce had sustained a knee injury during practice for the Kansas City Chiefs. The tight end hyperextended his knee, according to head coach Andy Reid, and it is now questionable whether or not he will be on the field for the Week One opener of the NFL season.
The Chiefs face the Detroit Lions on Thursday night in the opening game of the 2023 regular season. The reigning Super Bowl champions will go into the game as favourites, but if Kelce is not available that would be a major blow to Patrick Mahomes and Co.
Kelce’s brother, Jason, is a centre for the Philadelphia Eagles, with the duo on opposing sides during last season’s Super Bowl in Arizona. Jason himself is getting ready for the start of the new NFL season, where the Eagles will face the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Despite the brothers being on rival teams, the dup have a close bond and Jason has revealed that he spoke to Travis after the injury. While providing an update on his brother’s fitness, Jason went on to reveal that he sustained a similar injury in the past, albeit in much more different circumstances.

“I talked to him yesterday, and I’ve done the same thing,” Jason Kelce told the . “You know, you just plant or you do something and your knee hyperextends.
“If I’m being truthful, the last time I did this I was making this bonfire outside and I thought I was strong enough to kick a piece of wood in half. I hyperextended my knee and did the same thing, a bone bruise.
“It was in the middle of the season and my knee did swell up and I was like: ‘Man, that was the dumbest thing I’ve done in a long time’.
“[For] Trav, this was out on the field. I know that he’s got some swelling going on. But it sounds like as long as they can get that down, he’s gonna have a chance to go. The ligaments and everything are intact, structurally. From what we know right now, his knee is fine.
“So really it’s about getting that swelling down and seeing how bruised that bone is. Because if you guys have ever had those, they can be pretty painful especially if it’s in a spot that’s rubbing all the time. And that can kind of shut down your muscles and do other things. I think he’s gonna be good to go, I really do.”
