GMB's Laura Tobin discusses the horrible abuse she receives after TV appearances

Good Morning Britain meteorologist Laura Tobin bravely opened up about the "horrible" abuse she receives daily when she does climate coverage on the show.

The presenter, 41, who has been a staple on the ITV show since 2014, shared her experience after GMB spoke to US TV weatherman, Chris Gloninger, who was forced to quit his job after he received death threats for warning about climate change in his reports.

Laura said: "Chris and myself, we just love weather, we're so passionate about it. But in our careers, we're reporting on more frequent, more severe weather, more often. Loads of people have great comments when we do climate coverage on the show but yes, myself, I've also received a very small amount of people giving some really horrible tweets to me on nearly a daily basis."

GMB then showed a series of the said tweets, which included "Laura Tobin is pushing a fake climate agenda!" and "Laura Tobin's turned into a full on Climate Change ghoul, can we stop with this incessant brainwashing every morning!!!" Laura added that she opens the tweets which say "don't read this, it might say something offensive", explaining: "Because for me, it's important to understand why people don't agree with what I'm saying.

"Then for me just to report the facts and to just state facts to say why that isn't true just stick with the science, we have to look at our heatwave, our heatwave in Europe, the flooding in Greece, and all of these things to connect the dots that it's climate change.

"As Chris said, if we communicate it, people understand so they can make changes to make a difference so actually help to limit these impacts. What we do is really important, I have a world weather WhatsApp group, all meteorologists around the world are receiving the same abuse."

It comes as US TV meteorologist Chris Gloninger appeared on Wednesday's Good Morning Britain to reveal he had left his job and moved across America due to the abuse he received. Chris spoke about the reality of global warming on US TV but some viewers were not happy, claiming climate change is a 'Biden hoax' and even threatening to kill him.

Speaking live via video from Massachusetts, Chris said: "It was a decision I didn't take lightly, it was months of soul searching and figuring out the next steps of what exactly would be a good way to continue to improve climate literacy in this country but step away from that public spotlight for a while and try to refocus my life a little bit. It was a challenge, as you mentioned and heard in my goodbye, it's a dream I've had since second grade when a hurricane hit my own town."

Chris added: "It sounds like a cliché, but I tried to make a difference, my wife and I didn't have connections in Iowa, it was a place in the United States that needed to hear about climate change. There was a void, I simply tried to help fill that void."

Host Ed Balls then asked how he feels about people claiming weather reports are part of a "conspiracy", to which Chris replied: "It's not just me. I've followed Laura [Tobin] for a long time, I know when she talks about climate change, she gets similar messages this isn't just me, it's a much larger issue!"
