Rasmus Hojlund has detailed how Casemiro had been left "pleasantly surprised" by his performance following his Manchester United debut at the weekend.

Hojlund, 20, became the Red Devils' marquee summer signing last month when he completed a £72million transfer from Atalanta, and the Denmark international finally made his bow in the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday after missing United's first three league matches through injury.

The youngster made a big impression after replacing Anthony Martial in the 68th minute and a clip of him being congratulated by Casemiro following an impressive piece of hold-up play in the second half has since gone viral.

Hojlund has now lifted the lid on the interaction, revealing that his performance had impressed. the Brazilian superstar. He told Tipsbladet: “He just says something in Spanish: 'Vamos' or something like that.

“He was happy that I gave the team perhaps a slightly different dynamic than what you get from Martial. He's maybe a little more technically strong and looks down the gaps where I like to take the fights. After all, he hasn't seen me play before, so he told me he was pleasantly surprised to see me play.”

He stressed the need for patience, though, with United's new No.9, who has already been likened to Erling Haaland and will likely carry the brunt of the goalscoring burden for his new club this term.

Neville told Sky Sports on Sunday: “Manchester United have not had a striker they can hit. Ronaldo was not a classic target man, [Anthony] Martial and [Marcus] Rashford certainly aren't, but it looks as though he will mess people about. The good thing is that he's still learning the game.

“He's only played a couple of seasons at top-level football, but people are expecting him to be an Erling Haaland for Manchester United. They don't have anyone with experience to help or back him up.”

Neville added: “Martial. We have been watching him for eight or nine years now - and he's not what Ten Hag needs or wants. This lad [Hojlund], big price tag on him, it was an encouraging start.”
