A Louisianna woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing her grandfather in the face after he 'asked her to shower,' a local sheriff's department said.

Carrington Harris, 22, was arrested after an investigation revealed she stabbed her grandfather in the face following an argument over her hygiene habits. The stabbing happened on the 3900 block of Fountainbleu Road in Keithville, just south of Shreveport.

Detectives said Harris and her grandparents began arguing after they asked her to shower. She began damaging property inside the house and then turned the power off from outside. While the couple was trying to restrain Harris, she escaped and retrieved a knife from the kitchen, using it to stab her grandfather, said the press release from law enforcement agents.

Harris then ran from the house and hid in the woods. She was located a few hours later, hiding behind a nearby home. The young woman was arrested and charged with one count each of Domestic Abuse Battery and Domestic Abuse Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. She is currently booked into the Caddo Correctional Center. No bond has been set in this case.

Harris’s grandfather was transported to Willis-Knighton South by Caddo Parish Fire District 6. There is no report on his condition at the time of this release.

According to Law and Crime, Harris' jail records show an arrest in May of this year and one charge of domestic abuse battery. "The status of that case was not immediately clear, nor was it clear who else was involved in the earlier battery charge," said the publication.

Unfortunately, underneath Louisiana's rich history, there has always been a darker side, and the recent uptick in overall crime rates 'might be attributed to migratory, social, or economic factors,' says Southwestjournal.com. According to police stats, property crime in the state is significant, with 123,575 incidents reported per 100,000, equating to a 1 in 37 chance of experiencing property loss. Year-on-year, violent crimes in Louisiana have seen an upswing, with an alarming rate of 31,500 incidents per 100,000 in 2023.

Keithville, LA, is a tiny area with just over 12,000 residents. The crime rates are much lower in this neighbourhood, so crimes like this one shook like little area. Harris is now facing a potential $1,000 fine and jail time. She will likely be sentenced to anywhere between six months and 15 years, according to the state legislature, depending on her previous records. A court date has not been announced yet.
