Lorraine Kelly has hinted she isn’t close to Holly Willoughby and says she has offered her no advice following the explosive exit of Phillip Schofield from This Morning and ITV.

The 63-year-old presenting legend has been enjoying an extended summer break from her morning talkshow - and is not scheduled to return to her sofa until next month. Earlier this year, ITV was plunged into crisis when 61-year-old Phillip admitted he had enjoyed a fling with a much younger member of crew working on This Morning, leading to him to quit the show.

And when he later admitted he had lied about having his affair - even allegedly keeping the truth from 42-year-old Holly - he spectacularly quit ITV entirely, leaving the network under a cloud of shame. Lorraine has been a familiar face to ITV viewers since 1988 with her time on the network overlapping with Holly and Phil’s.

However, it seems she does not consider herself a close colleague of Holly, and she has offered no pearls of wisdom for the younger star. Lorraine was quizzed by new! magazine where she was asked if she had given her ITV co-star any advice after the scandal.

The Scottish presenter said: “No, no, honestly, we are so separate. And I haven't been in [at work], for, gosh, you know, that's the first time I've thought about work.

“But no, we're honestly just getting on with it. Honestly, I can't really say any more than that.”

While Lorraine has been on her summer holiday, her morning show has been helmed by Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh. The duo are set to keep hosting the show until Lorraine returns in September.

While Lorraine is enjoying her extended break - and sharing photos of herself frolicking in the sunshine on her Instagram page - she has also told fans that her mother suffered a health scare over the summer. She explained back in July that her mum had been spending time in hospital.

She tweeted: "Having spent a lot of time over the past few days with my mum in @UHMonklands hospital I’ve seen again just how kind, caring, hard working, funny and downright fabulous our NHS workers are “thank you” doesn’t begin to cover it."

Concerned fans were quick to send words of support to the TV star, with many sharing their hope that her mum will be back to health quickly. And Lorraine interacted with fans to thank them for their kindness.

More recently, Lorraine has been delighting fans with photos of herself in her garden - joined by her adorable scruffy sausage dog, Ruby.
