Chelsea stance on signing Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal before transfer deadline
Chelsea are unlikely to pursue a move for Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe despite rumours of a late move.
The Blues have spent heavily this summer as they aim to recover from what was a woeful season last time out, but there’s still a few days of the transfer window remaining for Chelsea to add further bodies.
There has been talk recently that they would potentially be interested in a move for Arsenal star Smith Rowe as an addition to their attacking options. The Gunners’ academy graduate has fallen out of contention at the Emirates Stadium over recent seasons. Despite that, it seems unlikely at this stage that Chelsea will move for Smith Rowe in the immediate future.
Mirror Football understands that he is not currently one of Mauricio Pochettino’s priorities and Arsenal will not sell unless the midfielder himself pushes for a move. The 23-year-old still has three years left to run on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and underlined his aspiration to force himself back into Mikel Arteta’s thinking last season.
Speaking in March, he said: "I’m really desperate to be honest. The team are doing really well and it’s obviously something I want to be a part of. I’m working hard every day.

"Coming away with England is minutes that I really need. I’ve been struggling with this injury since I was 18 or 19, just before I went on loan to RB Leipzig.”
Meanwhile, Arteta himself expressed his excitement at having Smith Rowe back after his role in the England under-21s winning the Euros. “Really good,” Arteta said.

“We are all really happy because we know that it has been a tough season for him. He has had a lot of difficulties to overcome. He had the opportunity to play with England, at the end. He put a lot of effort to get to that competition in the best possible condition.
“We were all very happy to see him lift that trophy. You can see, it produced something different. His energy and the way he has come back. He is in a really good place and it’s great to see him back with us.”
Smith Rowe has made 97 appearances for Arsenal since earning a spot in the first team. His best campaign came during 2021/22 as he was afforded 38 outings and scored 11 goals in all competitions.
However, injury hugely limited his contributions last term as he made just 14 appearances and provided only two assists. Smith Rowe’s chances have also been limited so far this season.
He has been benched in all three of Arsenal’s opening Premier League games of the season, whilst only being afforded a five-minute cameo in the Community Shield win over Manchester City.
