NTA host Joel Dommett has thrown his support behind This Morning's Alison Hammond as he weighed in on Holly Willoughby's award snub.

The comedian, 38, will be hosting the National Television Awards for the third time in a row if all goes to plan next week. Joel is expecting his first child with wife Hannah Cooper, but the awards ceremony is "fairly soon to the due date", which could see him pull out of the show. Even if Joel's NTA stint doesn't go to plan, he is already eyeing up another presenting gig.

The Masked Singer host admitted he would "definitely" present ITV's This Morning if the opportunity was there. He has already appeared on the daytime show before as a guest presenter alongside Holly. Joel will be supporting his This Morning co-stars on the night of the NTAs as he said he was "so happy" for Alison Hammond reaching the shortlist.

He told MailOnline of Alison's nomination: "I'm so happy for her [Alison], to see her on that list is absolutely fantastic." Joel gushed about his time on This Morning, saying it is "an amazing show". The presenter also hinted at Holly's NTA snub from the TV presenter category after Phillip Schofield's affair scandal.

Reflecting on his time working with Holly, he said: "She was so good, I just learnt so much from her, she was so professional. There was an amazing moment where I didn't know what to make notes on, on my first day. I looked over at Holly and she's made all these script notes. She just puts the effort in even after this long, I genuinely learned a lot."

Joel recently appeared on Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe's podcast Parenting Hell, where he shared his plan for if Hannah goes into labour on the night of the NTAs. Rob joked: "If she goes into the labour the day of the NTAs which is live from the O2, just let me know and I'll get there and I'll host it." Joel shared ITV's back up plan, adding: "They say they've got a contingency but they won't tell me who it is."

The trio joked about who could be Joel's replacement as they predict This Morning host Craig Doyle could be up for the job. Josh asked: "Have you discussed what the communication will be, are you going to keep your phone on?" Joel explained: "That's what I'm thinking because you know it's live so there's breaks so I'm thinking I'm just going to keep my phone on me and just check during the breaks and then I can come back after a break and suddenly it's Craig Doyle."

Rob added: "So the contingency is going to have to be somewhere there on the night," as he conjured up an image of the back-up presenter waiting in the wings to take over from Joel. "Yeah and they won't tell me who it is. I keep guessing like it's the f*****g Traitors," Joel joked. The couple, who wed in a stunning Greek ceremony in 2019, announced Hannah's pregnancy earlier this year.

Neither Phillip Schofield or his one-time best friend and co-host Holly are up for the best TV presenter prize at next month's NTAs. Geordie duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, who have won the award a whopping 21 times, will compete against Alison Hammond, Martin Lewis, Claudia Winkleman and Bradley Walsh as they aim to be crowned the nation's favourite TV presenter(s) once again on September 5.
