EastEnders fans 'work out' why Cindy abandoned the Knights after spotting clue

EastEnders fans have 'worked out' why Cindy Beale abandoned the Knight family.

Cindy is making her big return this week as she heads back from France to Walford alongside Ian and Peter Beale. She has been presumed dead by the locals, after she 'died in childbirth whilst in prison'. However, viewers know now that this is because something happened in jail as she was put into witness protection for her own safety.

She was given the new name of Rose, before moving to Spain and finding love with George Knight. They lived many happy years together, but one day, she disappeared and never returned again.

Fans have been trying to work out what happened to make her leave all those years back, as she heads back to Walford to unknowingly be reunited with her ex-husband George and their kids Anna and Gina.

One fan posed the question on Reddit: "Cindy was living as "Rose" when she met, married George and had two daughters... but then she left. Now, did she leave, because she just didn't want to be with them, or was she instructed to by the Witness Relocation Programme? Maybe the bad guys were onto her... but then that would mean her family would have been in danger. And if they were in danger and she still wanted to be with them, then why didn't she take them with her into another identity?"

Another viewer penned in response: "I personally think it’s to do with the news that Lucy died, the timeline lines up pretty well. Perhaps she found out, went mad and tried to find answers, left George and the girls but got stopped by witness protection, couldn’t go back to George so was left to stew on her own until Ian somehow found her; or she found him."

"Lucy's the big factor. 9 years=2014. The year she died. The real question is why would she leave behind a newly born Cindy Jr. You can take your kids into witness protection with you so why did Cindy Sr leave her behind?" a third penned.
