Rio Ferdinand left red-faced after Man Utd U-turn in Nottingham Forest win
Manchester United poked fun at Rio Ferdinand after completing a dramatic comeback against Nottingham Forest, having found themselves 2-0 down inside four minutes.
Forest duo Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Boly each struck a blow early on, adding to their early-season woes and silencing much of Old Trafford. Social media was, unsurprisingly, ablaze with reaction and former United defender couldn't bare to endure any more torment, saying: "I'm going bed."
Yet when Bruno Fernandes completed the Red Devils' comeback by converting a penalty in the 76th minute, giving his side a 3-2 win, Ferdinand posted: "Just woke up… everyone ok?" United's official Twitter account picked up on his musings, replying to their former ace by writing: "Wakey wakey!" Ferdinand took it all in good faith and wrote back to his old club: "I'm here guys."
Some United supporters would've wished that they were asleep after a nightmare start to their third Premier League game of the season, conceding their first goal from their own corner. Forest striker Awoniyi, who's enjoying a rich vein of form, took full advantage of a huge amount of space which was left vacant by the Red Devils.
With a third goal of the season in his sights, the Nigerian drove forward and coolly slotted past United goalkeeper Andre Onana, who soon saw a second strike fly past him and watch the scoreboard click to 2-0. Willy Boly capitalised on some slack defending from the hosts, heading home after Forest won a free-kick just outside of the Red Devils' penalty area in front of the away end.

Christian Eriksen provided a response in the 17th minute, profiting from great work by Marcus Rashford down the left flank, producing the goods back in his favoured position after Erik ten Hag recalled Anthony Martial and started him as the striker. Casemiro should've equalised shortly after but somehow missed an open goal with a header from point-blank range.
The Brazilian midfielder made amends shortly after half-time, converting a Fernandes cross and drawing United level. Fernandes then turned goalscorer by slotting in a penalty which was won by Rashford after a VAR check. Forest had been reduced to 10 men following Joe Worrall's red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity just outside the visitors' penalty area.
