Manchester United are ready to allow Facundo Pellistri to join Premier League newcomers Sheffield United on a season-long loan.

Pellistri, 21, is a full Uruguay international but is yet to establish himself as a first-team regular at Old Trafford, where he has made just 12 senior appearances since being signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in 2020.

The winger, who was handed his United bow during the League Cup win over Charlton last season, has featured in both of Manchester United's league fixtures so far this term as a substitute but is still expected to continue his development away from the club.

According to numerous reports, Sheffield United are aiming to strike an agreement with the Red Devils which would see Pellistri spend the 2023/24 campaign at Bramall Lane.

The potential move comes just less than a year after Pellistri was urged to leave the club for good by his compatriot, Gus Poyet. The former Chelsea and Tottenham ace was convinced that Pellistri would not get regular action under incoming manager Erik ten Hag.

"Pellistri will struggle to get game time," Poyet told Midnite before the World Cup finals last September. "It would be good for him to go somewhere and play because the World Cup is around the corner and he is very important for the Uruguay team because the coach [Diego Alonso] has lots of faith in his ability, he’s a proper winger."

Despite Poyet's concerns, Pellistri featured in all three of Uruguay's matches at the World Cup before they were dumped out of the tournament at the group stage. The youngster would later make his senior debut for United shortly after his return from Qatar, too.

Pellistri revealed earlier this summer that a temporary move away from Old Trafford could be on the cards as he bids to continue his development. Speaking during the club's pre-season tour of the United States, Pellistri revealed that he had, in fact, already held talks with Ten Hag about a potential loan move. The winger said: "Yes, I have spoken to him [ten Hag] and we are working together to find the best club, the best way, the best option.

"I am happy with that way because we are all in the same position. [I'm hoping] to play. In my position and at my age, what you want is to play. We are looking forward to find the best solution to do that."
