Coleen Rooney breaks down in tears in her new TV documentary as she tells how husband Wayne feared the Wagatha Christie controversy was making her "sick". The row between Coleen and Rebekah Vardy was such a constant presence in the Rooney's lives, footballer Wayne felt it was damaging and taking its toll on his wife.

Breaking down in tears in front of the cameras, Coleen says: "He just looked at me and said 'Coleen you're just not you anymore, you just look sick'. It was just constantly on my mind, I couldn't get away from it." Coleen, 37, is also shown speaking to her legal team ahead of the trial and fearing there is no chance she can win. She is seen telling the lawyers: "There's not a lot I can do unless I back down is there?" Afterwards she adds: "We didn't have the evidence. I was gutted, in a legal battle she would win."

Coleen Rooney : The Real Wagatha Story will detail how Rooney turned amateur online sleuth to find an explanation for why private stories about her and her family continued to appear in the media. She then posted a message on social media declaring 'it's.......Rebekah Vardy'.

Mrs Vardy has always denied she passed information to the newspaper. In the High Court at the end of July Mrs Justice Steyn ruled Coleen's accusation was "substantially true" and she effectively won the court battle of the wags.

The judge wrote of Vardy's libel action: "The claim has been dismissed. The defendant succeeded in establishing that the essence of the libel was substantially true."

In the case dubbed the 'Wagatha Christie trial' because of the way Coleen put false stories on her social media to prove Vardy was responsible for leaking information, the written judgement said that Coleen Rooney was ''an honest and reliable witness'' when she gave evidence at the High Court in May.

In her 76-page judgment, Mrs Justice Steyn said Vardy's evidence was "manifestly inconsistent" with contemporaneous documentary evidence on "many occasions". At the Edinburgh TV festival the audience were treated to a three minute trailer for the new Disney+ doc, and Coleen is asked if she still has the social media post on her phone and says 'yes' before showing it to the cameras. She also reads it out.

Coleen says: "When I put that post up I didn't in a million years think that I would be in a court case. I had a message off Rebekah saying: 'what the f**k is this?' I just wanted the leaks to stop. It was so sneaky, it was cheeky. "Rebekah was the one who was taking ME to court."

In another clip from the new series, Coleen wears a pink dress and says: "Rebekah didn't deserve the trolling she got." She adds: "Don't play games with a girl who can play better. What I put in that post is what I believed at the time, and what I still believe today. They're my words and I stick by them."

The three-part series will also explore how Rooney's life, and marriage to footballer Wayne Rooney, has played out in public for the last 20 years. Speaking in the latest issue of Vogue last week, Coleen said of the series: It’s brought up a lot of emotions. I felt like everyone else has spoken about it except me. And it’s my story to tell.”

At the Edinburgh TV Festival, Julia Nottingham, executive producer of the documentary, said: "It has been a really great journey. I have been making docs for a while, always looking for the next story."

After using her contacts to get a meeting with Coleen she added: "I got the first train to Manchester and sat with her and said 'I am not coming here with any pitch, I want to listen, what do you want to say?'

"She just said 'I have never said a word, I just want to say everything, I want it to be in my words'. And it just went from there and we sat for five hours. My jaw was on the floor. That was a couple of years ago before she knew she was going to trial so it is a very long relationship. It's been a great process and I do think the world is going to fall in love with Coleen, she is amazing."

Three part series Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story will air on Disney+ later this year.
