Brits are set to bask in a four-day heat blast with temperatures to hit highs of 27C after stormy weather lashed the nation.

Forecasters have predicted warmer skies from Tuesday with the mercury predicted to soar in some regions. East Anglia is expected to see the warmest temperatures with highs of about 27C. London will also enjoy temperatures of up to 25C every day until Thursday according to forecast charts.

But despite the sunshine there will be some showers for more northern and western regions along with sunny spells. The Met Office said in its forecast: "Remaining largely dry and warm across southern and eastern parts with some bright or sunny spells. Changeable across northern and western areas with a mix of sunshine and showers."

The BBC forecast predicts for Tuesday: "Tomorrow, sharp showers will continue in Scotland but will generally fall lighter and will be more scattered in nature. Cloudy with the odd shower in central areas, plenty of sunshine in the south."

It comes after Storm Betty lashed the nation in recent days. The strongest impact of the storm was felt in the Republic of Ireland and ferocious winds caused damage to the power network on Friday, affecting just over 70,000 homes, farms and businesses.

Betty is the second storm named in August, following Storm Antoni earlier this month. This is the second time since storm naming was introduced in 2015 that two storms have been named in August, following Ellen and Francis in August 2020.
