With the eyes of the footballing world currently fixed on the Saudi Pro League, Lionel Messi is doing his utmost to ensure the MLS is not left behind.

It's safe to say that Messi's time in America so far has been a huge success with the Argentinian superstar yet to experience defeat with Inter Miami. The club has been going from strength to strength since he arrived with Miami winning seven out of seven games which is an astonishing turnaround for a club that had the worst record in the division prior to his arrival.

With his former Barcelona team-mates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who now line up with him at Miami, Messi has helped spearhead a new era for Inter Miami while scoring a remarkable ten goals in seven games. The 36 year-old has even led Miami to their first piece of silverware after they won the Leagues Cup final against Nashville SC at the weekend.

The allure of more silverware is now on the horizon as Messi and Miami have the chance to reach another final this week when they face Cincinnati in the semi-final of the US Open Cup on Wednesday. Messi has no doubt reversed the fortunes at the David Beckham ran club, as well as propelling world-wide interest in the MLS, but it hasn't been an easy road for Miami since their inception in 2020.

Beckham made headlines after he relieved former manager Phil Neville of his coaching duties and appointed former Barca manager Tata Martino following a poor showing in the league. However, despite the club's rapid upturn in fortunes, the former Manchester United midfielder was urging patience after jubilant celebrations following Miami's cup victory at the weekend.

Despite Messi's immediate impact in the MLS, he is still actually yet to play in the league itself with his seven games so far all coming in cup competitions - however that will change when Miami meet New York Red Bulls on Saturday which has an 11.30pm kick off-time in the UK. With Messi once again making headlines just eight months on from Argentina’s World Cup heroics, sportswear giant adidas is also commemorating Messi’s impact on the game with a pair of new football boots.

The lightweight boots really catch the eye in metallic silver, with a black PRIMEKNIT collar that claims to keep players’ feet in place while the laces, f50 stripes, and outsole have an icy shade of blue, similar to Argentina's signature colourway.
