Royals avoided Meghan birthday wishes for fear of looking 'fake', says expert
The Royal Family avoided sending public birthday wishes to Meghan Markle through fear of 'looking fake', an expert has claimed.
Meghan turned 42 earlier this month but the royals' social media accounts all stayed silent and didn't post about her big day. It was a stark difference from last year when King Charles' previous Clarence House accounts sent a birthday message as did the pages of the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate.
The birthday snub came amid a turbulent year for the Sussexes and the royals with relations between both sides at a low following the release of the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and Harry's controversial memoir, Spare.
And according to historian and expert Dr Tessa Dunlop, the royals won't have wanted to look 'disingenuous' by publicly sending a message to Meghan. She told OK!: "I just think that they probably felt it looked a bit fake, given the whole world knows they're not really speaking much at the moment. It would have looked disingenuous and insincere." Meanwhile, Tessa also pointed out that if the royals did want to publicly mark Meghan's big day they would have faced a huge problem - in what photo of her to use.

She added: "You can hardly wish her a happy birthday in all black."

Meghan has not had a presence on social media since she and Prince Harry shut down their Sussex Royal accounts when they quit as working royals. However, it seems a pal of hers has dropped a major hint she is set to make a dramatic return to the site. Earlier this month, it was reported that Meghan had laid claim to the @meghan handle on Instagram - and is simply waiting for the right time to post. The account has no posts as yet and the profile picture is a simple snap of some beautiful pink flowers. However, Meghan did appear on Insta earlier this week, when a pal shared a photo of them enjoying a birthday celebration.
The snap was shared by hairdresser Kadi Lee and shows her and Meghan along with fellow pal Cleo Wade enjoying an al-fresco meal. Sharing the picture on her social media account, Kadi said: "Belated bday celebrations w/ these lovely muses. Missing sweet Serge Normant." Serge is another close friend of Meghan, who styled her hair for her wedding to Harry.
Kadi posts on Instagram under the handle Highbrow Hippie, which is a wellness centre she is co-founder of in Venice, California. And eagle-eyed fans have noticed that the Highbrow Hippie account also follows the @meghan one - fuelling rumours Meghan's Instagram return is definitely on.
