BBC Breakfast star announces immediate exit from show as 'career girl out'

BBC Breakfast star Emma Vardy has announced her immediate departure from the famous sofa.

The broadcaster has recently been standing in for co-anchor Nina Warhurst who was on maternity leave after giving birth to her third child. But now, Emma, 42, has explained she is also heading off on maternity leave. Taking to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Emma was glowing as she explained her absence from the programme.

In a picture which was shared from Northern Ireland, the star was sitting on top of two launderette-style washing machines as she hinted that she doesn't know the gender of her unborn child. Holding up a green and red t-shirt, Emma looked sensational as she showcased her blossoming bump in a figure-hugging lime green dress.

Celebrated the start of this new chapter with cocktails at this perfectly disguised speakeasy!! #TheWashhouse."

Sharing a picture of herself holding her surfboard on a stunning beach, she said: "Well folks it's definitely getting a bit harder to balance….extra cargo hitching a ride!! Still managing to catch a few waves though. Beautiful weekend in Co Sligo, and a very exciting summer ahead!! #paddlingfortwo #babyonboard."

Just last week, Emma was in the gym as she prepared to give birth. She asked her followers: "Ladies I’d like to hear your experiences of hitting the gym during pregnancy? Runners too, what conflicting views, myths, or advice did you hear? Do we get enough guidance on exercise during the 9 months? Filming a piece for @BBCBreakfast about this."
