Brit holidaymaker, 19, raped by stranger on Greek island beach
A British teenager has reported being raped by a stranger on a beach on a Greek island, police have confirmed.
The woman, 19, came forward to say she'd been the victim of a sex attack on isle of Ios between 9pm and 10.30pm local time yesterday (about 7 to 8.30pm BST). Police are hunting for the man responsible and have launched an investigation.
Ios is one of the 39 Cyclades group of Greek islands, which also includes the more well known holiday hotspots Mykonos and Santorini. The news comes just months after the death of fellow Brit Scott Seddon, who was electrocuted while off the coast of Agia Agathi in Rhodes.
The 26 year old who had been staying at his family's holiday home on the Greek island was struck by lightning while paddleboarding, as his girlfriend filmed him from the shore. Scott, originally from Liverpool, shared a bungalow with his dad Steve and his sister Layla, but often visited the Greek island to stay at the family's holiday home.
Paramedics rushed to the beach in the hopes of saving him but, despite their best efforts, he passed away. His girlfriend and a Brazilian resident called Wander Machado, 47, also tried to revive him on the sand. His distraught partner is said to have captured the horror moment on her phone, which has now been handed in to Greek authorities to assist with their investigation.
