New Look's striped cardigans are this season's must-have accessory less than £30

As we prepare to bid farewell to the summer and ready ourselves for a season of sparklers, pumpkins, and hot chocolate - our wardrobes will no doubt be in need of a cosy overhaul, switching up from airy summer dresses and swimsuits to long fitted trousers, scarves and chunky knits. And one particular item that is a staple in every autumnal wardrobe is that of the cardigan - an easy capsule item for all weather that has, in the last month, seen an unbelievable increase in searches (844% to be precise). More specifically, one that is striped.

New Look aren't the only retailer shouting about stripes this season. A handful of other popular high street fashion powerhouses have some gorgeous cardigans that rival these five and while they may not be as cheap, they are certainly just as cheerful and stylish. This black and white number from FatFace, which is made from 49% nylon, 48% acrylic and 3% alpaca, is gorgeous and comes in at £59.

Changing up the stripes' direction, this recycled blend cardigan from Marks & Spencer comes in at £29.50 and looks effortlessly classy thanks to its boxy fit and v-neckline. Switching up the neutral colours for a more colourful hue, M&S is also offering this blue White Stuff pure cotton striped crew cardigan - an online exclusive - for £49 while Nobody's Child has this gorgeous pink mock-crochet stripe short sleeved cardigan on sale for £25 (down from £55).
