Tesco issues urgent 'do not eat' warning as it recalls popular crisp snacks

Tesco has issued an urgent warning to customers as it recalls a popular snack as it poses a risk to those with certain allergens.

The products recalled by the supermarket chain are its own brand Free From 150g packs of Onion Rings, Cheese Flavour Balls and Bacon Rashers crisps. These products claim on its packaging that they do not contain gluten, wheat or milk.

However, the recall is due to the products possibly containing gluten, which has not been declared. This poses a risk to those who have an allergen or intolerance to gluten or who have Celiac disease. This is a condition where your immune system attacks your own tissues when you eat gluten and it stops you from taking in nutrients. Tesco has urged shoppers who have purchased the product due to it being gluten-free to not eat it.

The products affected by the recall have the use by date of December 16 2023 and included all batch codes. Customers have been urged to return the products to their nearest Tesco supermarket for a full refund. If you have one of the recalled products, you will not need to have a receipt for the refund.

A Tesco statement read: "We’re recalling one date code of Tesco Free From 150g packs of Onion Rings, Cheese Flavour Balls and Bacon Rashers, as they may contain gluten which isn’t declared on the packaging.

"This could be a risk to people who have coeliac disease or an allergy/intolerance to gluten. All batch codes are affected and those who have purchased the crisps should check for the use by date of December 16, 2023. If you’ve bought an affected product and have coeliac disease or an allergy/intolerance/sensitivity to gluten, please don’t eat it."

Other products which have recently been recalled by the supermarket chain are its own brand 1.5kg British cooking salt and Rude Health Low Sugar Granola Almond and Hazlenut. The cooking salt has been recalled due to it possibly containing piece of plastic which could be harmful if eaten. This product has a batch code of 3200.

The Rude Health Granola has been recalled as it could possibly contain small stones which again pose a risk when eaten. This product has the best before dates of April 17 2024, May 11 2024, and June 12 2024.

In a statement, Rude Health said: "No other batches of Low Sugar Granola or other Rude Health products are affected by this recall. This is not an allergen risk. If you have bought the above product we advise you not to consume it."

Again, both of these products can be returned at your local Tesco store and you do not need a receipt to get your refund.
