Man Utd stars given immediate challenge after "ugly and boring" Wolves win
Manchester United have been told to forget about their "ugly and boring" win over Wolves by former striker Dimitar Berbatov.
The Red Devils kicked off their new campaign with a slender victory over the Midlands side at Old Trafford. Raphael Varane eventually scored the winning goal despite what was an underwhelming performance from the hosts.
Wolves were somewhat unfortunate to not at least get a point after missing a host of opportunities. United are next back in action this forthcoming weekend against Spurs and will no doubt be aiming to extend their perfect start to the campaign. Berbatov, who represented both United and Tottenham in his career, has given his assessment of the Red Devils and given them some stark advice ahead of their next outing.
Speaking to Betfair, the Bulgarian said: “Manchester United's 1-0 win over Wolves was a boring game to watch. United were rusty, and that's no fun to watch, but I can understand why because I've been there.
“The first game of the season always has a chance of being like this. The important thing about it is that you have to get the three points, and that's what happened last night.

“The performance should be forgotten straight away by every United player. There was no one who had a great game. It was ugly and boring. The only positive was getting the three points.

“Everyone tried to play a good game, but for one reason or another nothing was working. Passes weren't good, positioning wasn't the best. United players need to take lessons from this game and wake up because if games like this start to happen a lot, then there's a problem.
“Credit to Wolves. They were unlucky not to get a point. They defended well and made the game uncomfortable for United. My old team have the firepower to do well, but their passing and decision-making needs to be a lot better when they play Tottenham on Saturday.”
Should United claim victory against Tottenham next time out, it would be the first time that they have started a season with back-to-back victories in six years. They last chalked up consecutive wins at the start of a campaign during the 2017/18 campaign during Jose Mourinho ’s second season at the helm.
Erik ten Hag has already underlined his desire for improvement from his side ahead of their next outing. Speaking after the win over Wolves, he said: “It was a tough game. We can be much better on the ball.
“Wolves were very aggressive. We could be better in decision-making. But I see many positive things, six, seven good high ball regains, we have to make more of them. In a low block we fought for our lives. I think we could have scored from turnovers, there were overloads, the frontline was not in the best form today.”
