I've tried more than my fair share of rums and while I definitely appreciate spiced rums, the flavoured versions hold a special place for me, especially when they're spiced and flavoured. I love how they mingle classic rum flavours with something completely new.

One flavour that I'm seeing everywhere at the minute is cherry. It comes in many forms but there are so many on the market that it feels like a must to have at least one cherry rum in a collection.

I've noticed it crop up in delicious forms everywhere but one stands out for it's stunning bottle, decent price point and easy access with it being stocked in most supermarkets and online retailers. Of course that one is Kraken Black Spiced Rum Black Cherry & Madagascan Vanilla.

I always like to have my rums neat when I'm trying them for the first time. Although they work well in cocktails and mixed with cola I don't think you can really speak to the product without trying it without the bells and whistles.

The flavour of cherry is very much front and centre but I noticed an almost liquorice note lingering just behind it. You can taste the vanilla and sugar notes but you mainly get a strong cherry flavour, which is exactly what you'd want from a cherry rum.

While it can be served neat there's a way I like it much more - with cola. Cherry Cola has for a long time been my go to drink from Coca Cola's range and when mixing this rum it tastes exactly like that. There isn't even a burn going down even with it being 40% ABV so please do remember to drink responsibly.

I would say this is my favourite out of the currently Kraken line up, it has the signature bottle that so many of us love but the sweet cherry flavour really stands out to me. Especially when mixed with cola, it's a great drink to have at parties and when I shared it with friends they were really impressed - all of them saying they preferred it to the original Kraken too.

I do also enjoy Depth Charge Black Cherry and Project #173's Black Cherry but I don't think it's as easy to get your hands on as Kraken is. I think this is a great option for summer parties and if you want to spice up a Black Forest dessert.
