Coronation Street's Rufus' wife leaves fans confused with evidence twist

Coronation Street fans were left confused on Friday night as Rufus Donahue's wife, Lou, suddenly got suspicious about her husband's death. Fans will recall that serial killer Stephen Reid murdered Rufus earlier this year by drugging and drowning him.

During the latest episode, a guilty Stephen struggled at Rufus' memorial as he spoke to the late businessman's son Jools and estranged wife Lou. Things went from bad to worse for Stephen when Lou accidentally showed him a clear bag full of Rufus' things, which she had collected from the police earlier that day and it contained items found by the side of the pool with Stephen's tie pin visible. The bag was also seen by Sean Tully, who later in the episode pointed out that Rufus had a tie pin just like Stephen.

Yet this wasn't the only discovery as Lou mentioned to Carla Connor that Rufus' watch is missing. Lou was left suspicious as Rufus adored his watch and had planned to gift it to their son with the grieving character worried that her estranged husband could have been robbed and killed for the item. Rufus is believed to have drowned in his swimming pool after a drink and drug binge despite Stephen murdering him. With Lou now suspicious, could the net be closing in on cobbles killer Stephen?

The episode ended with Stephen ringing Lou, pretending to check in, where she told him that she was heading to the police station in the morning to discuss the tie pin. Lou pointed out that the tie pin has "love G x" on it, questioning if it even belonged to her husband. Viewers will recall that Stephen was married to Gabrielle Reid, his estranged wife, and that clue on the tie pin, as well as Sean recognising the item, could potentially lead to his downfall.

However, other viewers were left confused as they questioned that if Lou had already picked up the tie pin from the police, they will have already of examined it, and by her handling it since any DNA could be contaminated. Taking to Twitter, one person said: "Can someone explain the tie pin thing please? #Corrie If Rufus's wife collected it from the police station, wouldn't that mean the police have already examined it?"

Elsewhere, a different account put: "So a vital piece of murder evidence ends up in her handbag and not in police vaults! #corrie", another fan wrote: "Surely that pin would needed to be tested for DNA… #Corrie", a different account commented: "Rufus's wife really trusts all these people she's just met, considering she thinks he was murdered! #Corrie", another soap watcher put: "Wouldn’t they already have examined the stupid tie pin? #Corrie" while a different viewer added: "She is handling this tie pin. Rubbing her cells all over it. How they going to prove anything with it."
