Bayern Munich have offered Harry Kane a four-year contract and the no.9 shirt if the England captain completes a move from Tottenham.

A deal looked all but set to be completed after Bayern reached an agreement with Tottenham to sign the England international for £86.4million. There had been a feeling that Kane was leaning towards staying at Spurs, before the 30-year-old made his mind up and gave the green light on a move to the 33-time German champions.

Kane was due to fly to Germany on Friday and, after a brief hold up that saw the forward return to a family home near Stansted Airport, it was understood Tottenham had given him permission to travel. Initial reports claimed that Kane was scheduled to depart England at 7.30am but his flight was pushed back to 12.15pm. However Sky Sports have since claimed that Kane remained at home as of Friday lunchtime and would only travel once Spurs and Bayern Munich ironed out any last-minute disagreements.

Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel remained tight-lipped when asked about Kane during his press conference on Friday afternoon. "You probably know more than me on where he is and what he's doing!" Tuchel told journalists. "We're working on it, that's no secret - but as long as there's no decision, I can't say anything."

Should Kane complete the deal, Kane is expected to pen terms until 2027 and will wear the no.9 jersey, according to The Athletic. That shirt has been vacant for the past 12 months since Robert Lewandowski joined Barcelona. The Poland star donned that number for eight years and cemented himself as one of Europe's greatest scorers.

Bayern failed to replace Lewandowski with an out-and-out proven centre forward at the highest level last summer, having often played Sadio Mane, Eric Maxim Chupo-Moting and Thomas Muller in that role. Although Bayern struggled in the Champions League, they did win the Bundesliga for the 11th year in a row.

The transfer would bring an end to a summer-long saga between Bayern and Tottenham after the German outfit previously saw several bids rejected for the forward. Tuchel has been eyeing up Kane since the start of the window and made him his first-choice striker target.

Kane had returned to Tottenham for pre-season training last month and was preparing as normal for the 2023/24 Premier League season. He was firmly part of Ange Postecoglou's plans, with Kane scoring four times for Spurs in their 5-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk last Sunday.

Speaking after the match, Postecoglou did not rule out Kane's departure. He said: "You saw today that Harry Kane certainly is invested in what we're doing - and we will keep on doing that unless something changes. We know there's one deadline: that's the end of the transfer window."

Kane is regarded as one of Tottenham's greatest-ever players, having smashed the club's all-time goalscoring record and consistently performed for the last decade. He netted 30 Premier League goals last season and was second in the division's top scorers chart behind Manchester City's Erling Haaland.
