A British man died after allegedly being beaten by bouncers outside a nightclub in Cyprus.

Huseyin Mavideniz, 29, died after he was allegedly set on by door staff outside a club in Iskele in the early hours of Thursday morning. Security officers are alleged to have punched him in the head a number of the times before he was rushed to a hospital in Famagusta.

Despite medics' best efforts, they were unable to save him. As doctors tried to save his life, a mob of men - said to be Huseyin's grieving relatives - gathered outside the hospital and smashed the windows of the A&E department with a sledgehammer.

Pictures from the hospital showed glass shattered across the reception area. Police say they have a 26-year-old man in custody in suspicion of Huseyin's killing, and a manhunt has been launched for another suspect thought involved.

Dr Eyüp Göksu from the hospital told Yeniduzen: "He died when he came to the hospital. The cops are investigating right now. We will receive detailed information from our doctors on duty." He was reportedly in the country with his father, who was undergoing medical treatment.

Earlier this year, a British woman was found dead with "bruises all over her body" at her home in Cyprus. The 38-year-old woman is understood to have been found at an apartment she shared with her partner in Kato Paphos, in the west of the country.

The Cyprus Mail reported that the woman's partner informed local authorities of the death saying he found the woman when he returned to their home. Police launched a probe into the death, with forensic officers collecting evidence at the scene for examination, head of Cyprus police Michalis Nikolaou said. Initial examinations found the woman had bruises all over her body and periocular hematomas ( black eye) in both eyes.
