Meghan Markle celebrated her birthday on Friday, with the Duchess no doubt celebrating in style in Montecito, California.

But it turns out that despite living a lavish life across the Atlantic ocean, she has been dealt the "most British snub you could imagine" by the Royal Family after they failed to publicly wish her a happy birthday on social media.

The British Royal Family have become accustomed to social media in this day and age, with their many accounts for various households within the family used to address public affairs, engagements, life events and special occasions. Every year, whenever it's a member of the family's birthday, their accounts will wish that person a happy birthday with a dedicated post comprising of a photograph and short message.

But Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, turned 42 yesterday and the Royal Family seemingly snubbed her when they failed to post about the mother-of-two's milestone celebratory day. Usually members of the family will be celebrated with a post at 9am on the dot, but this year nothing has been uttered on social media for the Duchess.

"Sometimes the most powerful message you can send is when you say absolutely nothing," Andy Barr from 10Yetis told The Mirror US. He added: "I am sure that there will have been communications behind the scenes to wish her a happy birthday but the social media silence is the most British snub you could imagine."

He added: "The modern day social media equivalent of saying 'it’s fine' when clearly it isn’t. If the Royal Family had said anything it too would have been over analysed so maybe they thought it best to keep quiet.

"Let’s not forget, the Royal family are the masters of playing the long game and they won’t have forgotten the level of pain that Meghan and Harry caused them in the very recent past, not least at a time when the country was mourning the loss of the Queen. Maybe it is time for Meghan and Harry to test the waters and send a few heart emoji’s via Instagram," he concluded.

Meanwhile Ben Austin from absolute.digital told The Mirror US that this year, they "failed to publicly wish Meghan a happy birthday despite doing so previously, further highlighting this years snub". He went on: "It comes at a time after Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals even though the big day had been celebrated by official royal accounts in the past. This leads us to believe that there may be a stronger message beneath the surface for not doing so."

Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry decided to step down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020. The couple then moved to Montecito in California several months down the line to begin their new lives away from England with their growing family. The husband and wife duo now reside in the Santa Barbra area with their two children Archie and Lilibet.
