World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez has outlined Chelsea's ambitions ahead of the new season, stating that their 'main aim is to win the Premier League '.

Fernandez moved to Chelsea in January, making a record-breaking £105m switch from Benfica as one of a number of big-money signings made by the new owners. However, Chelsea struggled badly last season, with four different managers taking charge as the Blues finished 12th in the Premier League.

Former Tottenham and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has since taken over as their new boss and Fernandez is excited about Chelsea's chances next season. "Now we have a new head coach, you have to say the expectations of us have changed," he told Bleacher Report.

"Obviously when I arrived, everything was difficult, there were lots of changes going on and everything happened so fast for me. But now the expectations have changed.

"We want to be an aggressive team, a team that attacks and defends well, that goes into every game to win it whoever we're playing against and look to dominate every game we're in.

"And obviously we want to try to win the Premier League, that's our goal this year. As well as that, I think the cups in England start in January, but the main aim this year is to win the Premier League."

He also hailed the appointment of Pochettino, saying he has had "a big effect on my confidence". Fernandez added: "Obviously having an Argentine coach is much easier for me. Chatting to him, it's very important.

"It's another way to connect because I still don't speak English perfectly so speaking to him in Spanish it's much easier. It helps my confidence and it's a better relationship. It has a big effect on my confidence and it's very important that Pochettino has come in, he's going to be very important for us."

And Pochettino is a big fan of the midfielder, branding him a "fantastic player" after Chelsea won the Premier League Summer Series tournament in pre-season. "Always it is a pleasure [to have Fernandez]," Pochettino said.

"He is very humble, he is a fighter also and is a fantastic player, world champion with Argentina and I am so proud. I am Argentine also and I shared happiness when they won the World Cup. It is a pleasure when you have a player like him in the squad."
