Just 18 months after their first-ever meeting, Manchester City and RB Leipzig are due to face off once more in the Champions League.

The two clubs met in the 2021-22 group stage, as Pep Guardiola's City looked to start again after losing the previous season's final against Chelsea. The Premier League team won their home game 6-3, despite Christopher Nkunku scoring a hat-trick for the visitors, while the Bundesliga outfit won 2-1 back in Germany with Kyle Walker picking up a red card.

City go into the game after losing top spot in the Premier League over the weekend, dropping points away to Nottingham Forest. Die Roten Bullen, meanwhile, are outside the Champions League places domestically after a slow start saw manager Domenico Tedesco replaced by Marco Rose.

City finished top of their group once more this season, having fallen at the hands of Real Madrid in last season's semi-finals. Guardiola's team remain unbeaten in this season's competition, winning four games and drawing two to finish ahead of Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and FC Copenhagen.

Things were tougher for Leipzig, who lost their first two games against Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid. They needed four wins in a row to make it through, doing a double over Celtic and putting four past Shakhtar in the winner-take-all final group game.

Three of City's four league defeats this season have come on the road, potentially giving their opponents some hope for the first leg. However, Rose's team suffered defeat in their last league game at Red Bull Arena when Union Berlin came to town.
