Love Island's Lochan says it was 'shocking' to finish as runner-up with Whitney

Love Island fans were left stunned on Monday night when Maya Jama revealed Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki had finished behind winners Jess Harding and Sammy Root in the live dinal but, the runners-up have admitted that they too were "shocked" by the result.

The runners-up, who received 26.85 per cent of the vote compared to winners' 34.57 per cent, were surprised by the public's backing and had no idea they would last so long in the ITV2 reality series.

Speaking out on the final result, Lochan said: "[It feels] shocking! That’s the word that really stands out. Extremely grateful that the public saw what I saw in Whitney. Being in the final was a real shock."

"I was a bombshell and he was a Casa boy," Whitney added and Lochan continued: "I didn’t have as long a journey but it was an amazing feeling. I felt so blessed. I could have left two weeks ago and been happy and I think it was the same for Whitney. We took everything in."

On Monday, Maya revealed Molly Marsh and Zach Noble placed fourth with 14.37 per cent of the vote, whilst Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde finished third with 24.21 per cent.

The Love Island final was plagued by technical difficulties with the show accidentally airing Jess and Sammy's best bits when Maya had introduced Whitney and Lochan's highlights instead.

Love Island fans were shocked by the result as one tweeted: "This show is much a fix, how can Sammy and Jess win am still shocked the same guy that didn’t find Jess attractive," while another wrote: "FIX!! Absolutely disgusted that Whitney & Lochan didn’t win. Turned that straight off."

Looking forward to the future, the Love Island pair shared what they think is next for them as a couple. Lochan said: "I’m so excited to spend time with Whitney in our own homes with our family. We are home bodies so it will be nice to spend time with each other. But at the same time having dates and walks without being on a microphone!"

Whitney quipped: "We are low key vibes. We will be chilling." Speaking about what initially drew him to Whitney, Lochan pointed to Whitney's "bubbly character" while she praised him as "sweet and kind".
