Love Island's Jess 'risks heartache as Sammy could get the ick' expert says

On Monday night, Love Island viewers crowned Jess Harding and Sammy Root as their 2023 winners in a live final which was hit with a string of technical glitches. However, after winning the summer series, new doubts have been cast about the couple's future on the outside.

On Monday night, four couples found themselves in the final as they competed for viewers' votes to be crowned this year's champions. The four finalists were Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde, Jess Harding and Sammy Root, Molly Marsh and Zach Noble, and Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki, with the winner being announced live on ITV2 from the Mallorcan villa.

Revealing who had won, Maya Jama looked overjoyed as she celebrated the win with all the Islanders, including Sammy and Jess, who were overjoyed to find out they had won the public vote and thus bagged £50,000 to share.

Whitney and Lochan placed second, leaving fans stunned as they had been the favourites to win. Earlier in the series, Whitney and Lochan were voted favourite couple. Molly and Zach placed fourth last night, whilst Ella and Tyrique placed third.

Jess and Sammy couldn't believe they had won the series, as Whitney and Lochan showed how much they were thrilled for them, calling them their winners. Viewers watched as Maya then gave them both a huge hug as she celebrated their win with them.

However, not everyone was as impressed as thousands of Love Island fans flocked to social media to blast the fact that Jess and Sammy had nabbed the winning title from Whitney and Lochan. And now, a relationship expert has predicted that the couple will struggle to last on the outside.

Love expert and co-founder of dating app So Syncd, Louella Alderson, predicts that the pair could struggle getting to grips with their newfound fame – something which could hinder their relationship. "There's a chance Sammy could get the ick with Jess after the villa. Sammy has said too many times that Jess isn't his type and he wasn't physically attracted to her. The way Sammy said this felt quite nasty at the time," the expert told OK! Magazine.

"While there doesn't necessarily need to be instant physical chemistry, as attraction may develop as you get to know someone more, it could be a red flag for Jess outside the villa. Sammy has been known to be quite flirtatious with other girls and has got to know most new bombshells. Him being attracted to other women could become too much of a temptation for him and this could be the nail in the coffin for their post-villa relationship," Louella added.

Although Sammy's head has the potential to turn outside the villa, according to the expert, Jess is likely to stay 'loyal' having not 'wavered' in her feelings for Sammy while in the villa and more importantly, during Casa Amore week. Jess could well be in it for the 'long run' – while the relationship expert feels that Sammy could be the one to break her heart.

It comes after Love Island fans were left divided by the win; with some happy for them and others puzzled how Whitney and Lochan didn't take the crown. "Nah but fr how did Jess and Sammy actually win? #loveIsland," one penned.

Whilst a second fan added: "I literally watched love island for Whitney how how how how how did Sammy and Jess win I was so invested #loveIsland." Another tweeted: "Holy s*** did not expect Jess and Sammy to win #Loveisland! Delighted though Jess is unreal!" whilst a fourth penned: "Idc idc I think Jess and Sammy are cute. Wanted my girl Whitney to win but I’m not mad at alll #loveisland."
