Diet guru praises everyday drink that helps 'burn fat' and boost immune system
Losing weight can be tricky, especially when it comes to shifting stubborn fat that just doesn't seem to want to budge. Consistency is key with diet and exercise, but it can sometimes feel like you're never going to achieve your end goals. You might not expect a fat-burning aid to be sitting right there in your coffee cup, but some dieting gurus have revealed just that as they say black coffee can help you lose weight and boost your immune system.
Gin Stephens, an intermittent fasting expert, shared with nutrition experts Tim Spector and Jonathon Wolf, the potential benefits of intermittent fasting during a conversation on ZOE Health UK's YouTube. During their discussion, Gin, author of New York Times best-selling book Fast. Feast. Repeat explained that consuming black coffee outside of your eating window can be hugely beneficial when it comes to both weight loss and overall health, the Daily Record reports.
Intermittent fasting is a method where you only eat at a certain window of the day, and fasting for the rest of the day. It helps to reduce calorie intake and aids weight loss in the long run, with scientific backing - this method can prove successful and can also help with blood sugar management and prevention against disease.
But the pros say you can boost your chances of burning fat while intermittent fasting with a simple cup of Joe. "People often ask 'well how come I can have black coffee'?", Gin Stephens explained.
"Well [coffee has] a bitter flavour profile. Bitter flavour profiles are not associated with a cephalic phase insulin response. So, the black coffee is actually stimulating autophagy and autophagy is our body's powerful, cellular housekeeping. It's like recycling and up-cycling in our body during a fast. It can go in and clear up old, junk proteins and really clean up things.

"Also, it is great for our immune systems, they can really function best during the fasted state and black coffee is likely to stimulate these processes, it even helps with fat burning. So black coffee is a great thing to add into your fast and it tends to stimulate the things we want to have going on during the fast."
There are many other benefits a cup of black coffee can provide, including helping to improve physical performance and speed up your metabolism. It may also lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, and can be beneficial for liver health too.
