PSG expect 'insulting' late Mbappe bid from Real Madrid in blow to Liverpool

Paris Saint-Germain believe that Real Madrid will table a derisory transfer offer to try and prise Kylian Mbappe away on the cheap in the coming weeks.

Mbappe, 24, has been a long-term target for the Spanish champions and was expected to move to the Bernabeu as a free agent last summer before he penned a new contract with PSG following a dramatic late change of heart.

However, the sought-after striker is able to leave the Parc des Princes as a free agent in the summer of 2024 per the terms he signed - meaning the summer transfer window is PSG's final opportunity to cash in on the Frenchman.

Mirror Football exclusively revealed on Saturday night that Liverpool are trying to broker a deal which would see Mbappe spend the season on loan at Anfield: a switch which would leave the World Cup winner free to join Real Madrid next summer.

But PSG are also expecting Los Blancos to table an 'insulting' proposal at the last minute to try and force their rivals' hand. That's according to RMC Sport, via GFFN, who claim that the 'extremely low' offer will be made by Real to show that the club tried to sign Mbappe this year. PSG believe that he has already agreed to join Real as a free agent next summer.

While it remains to be seen if PSG will accept either of those proposals, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has already made it clear that he will actively seek to sell Mbappe before September's transfer deadline if the player refuses to sign a new contract.

The French champions have already accepted a world-record £259million bid from Al-Hilal this month, however, the deal collapsed due to Mbappe's reluctance to discuss a move to the Saudi Pro League outfit.

Liverpool are long-term admirers of Mbappe and tried to sign the striker back in 2017 before he joined PSG. Their attempts, which included a two-hour meeting on owner John W Henry's private jet as per French outlet L’Equipe, proved to be fruitless, though, as Mbappe ultimately opted to stay in Ligue 1.

PSG would stand to profit financially from loaning Mbappe to Liverpool. Al-Khelaifi has made it clear the club simply cannot afford to lose their star striker for free.

Speaking earlier this month, the PSG chief said: "My position is very clear. I don't want to repeat it every time: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract.

“We don't want to lose the best player in the world for free, we can't do that. This is a French club. He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it's not my fault. We don't want to lose the best player in the world for free, that's very clear."
