Just as Liverpool looked to have solved their midfield dilemma, fresh issues have come into play.

Jurgen Klopp's side made early additions ahead of their upcoming Europa League campaign, bringing in Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. The double swoop strengthened a key area for the Reds after a number of losses, but further exits have left them with a new issue.

Attack seems like less of a priority, but the sudden availability of Kylian Mbappe could change things dramatically. That's our top story as Mirror Football rounds up the latest news lines from around Anfield.

Mbappe loan hopes

Liverpool are exploring a sensational bid for Kylian Mbappe after the Frenchman rejected a move to Saudi Arabia. Al Hilal had a £259m bid accepted by Paris Saint-Germain, but the forward has no plans to leave Europe.

Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid next summer when his PSG contract expires. He has already indicated he has no plans to extend his stay at the Parc des Prince.

PSG would be able to bring in funds by loaning the star to Liverpool, while the move would ensure he doesn't turn out for a Champions League rival. The Reds will spend this season in the Europa League, having only mustered a fifth-place finish in the Premier League last term.

Klopp's midfield plan

Jurgen Klopp has suggested Trent Alexander-Arnold is capable of playing as a six this season. Nevertheless, the manager is not ruling out further additions with Fabinho set to join Jordan Henderson in Saudi Arabia.

"That [making new signings] would be not a bad idea," Klopp said. "We know that we have to do something there. It is absolutely clear. We are working on solutions"

Southampton talent Romeo Lavia is among those being linked with an Anfield move. The Belgian is expected to cost close to £50m, with Southampton saying no to Liverpool's initial offer.

Van Dijk opens up on Henderson exit

Virgil van Dijk has spoken about the loss of Jordan Henderson. The former Reds captain has completed his move to Al Ettifaq, after more than a decade as a Liverpool player.

"He's obviously going to be a big miss for us as a player, but definitely as a leader and a captain," the Dutch defender said. "So important for us during our success over last few years. We are going to miss him a lot. Others have to step up now, that's the reality.

"I see leaders and players who can become leaders. It's not overnight that can happen but we have a lot of players who can take on that responsibility. I'm confident that can happen."
