Music superstar Stormzy is backing the English women’s team to make it all the way to the current World Cup final - and win.

The 30-year-old chart-topping star has high hopes for Millie Bright and the rest of the female players following their UEFA European Women's Championship win in 2022.

So far the lionesses are off to an encouraging start as they defeated Denmark in a one-nil match on Friday having previously defeated Haiti with the same score at the start of the tournament.

Football fever is setting in early with hopes high that the England team could make it all the way to the final - with Stormzy among the cheerleaders.

“They brought it home during the Euros and they really took their opportunity to shine.

“The country will go nuts if they win it – we’d have to have a big party to celebrate.”

Friday night’s game saw drama on the pitch as Keira Walsh was stretchered off the pitch following a painful fall.

While the goal of the match was scored by Lauren James.

Away from the world of football, Stormzy recently found himself being kicked like a proverbial football when his ex-girlfriend Maya Jama appeared to make a sly dig at him while hosting an episode of Love Island.

The duo famously dated from 2015 until 2019 - with rumours speculating that the Mel Made Me Do It singer had cheated.

Earlier this month, Maya was discussing drama that fans witnessed in Casa Amor as the current tenth season of Love Island continues.

She was hosting companion show, Aftersun, and was joined by guests Sam Thompson, Sugababes singer Keisha Buchanan and former Islander Indiyah Polack.

The group discussed the relationship drama surrounding Zach Noble and Molly Marsh - sparked by the fact he locked lips with Casa Amor entrant Kady McDermott.

While Made in Chelsea star Sam defended Molly, Maya interjected with a little insight into one of her own relationships that turned sour.

She said: “That's real life though girls - and boys. They'll wear your necklace and lip someone else, we just don't get it on camera.”

While it seemed her comment related to the demise of her romance with Stormzy, the singer himself opened up about the “mistake” he made that led to the end of his romance with Maya.

He told the documentarian: “It was, like, ‘OK, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who is special to you’. That’s probably the biggest loss a man can have, isn’t it?

“There were other things in terms of mistakes I’d made. I didn’t do what a man should do to fully appreciate, love and care for his woman.”
