Doctor recommends cutting daily drink habit to stop your eyes from twitching
Twitching eyelids are seriously annoying, and whilst you may think nothing of it if it happens once in a while, if it's occurring regularly, you may be left wondering what's causing it, and how to stop it. A Canadian optometrist has shared that recently she's seen two patients who had eye twitches for over three weeks, and she shared the reasons that commonly cause this complaint.
Dr Alexa Hecht took to her TikTok to share "what you can do to stop it" if your eyelid has been twitching for weeks on end, and shows no signs of letting up anytime soon.
"The most common causes of an eyelid twitch are lack of sleep, too much caffeine, stress, too much alcohol, and things like that", Dr Alexa shared with her followers. "Eyes might also be dry, or you may have eye strain."
"The number one thing you can do to prevent this from occurring or stop it from happening is to eliminate one of those reasons. Or, some studies have actually shown that tonic water can actually help relax the muscle in the eyelid." So, if you're concerned that your caffeine consumption could be having an impact on your eyes, causing twitches, perhaps cut out the coffee for a week and see if it makes a difference.
But, if your twitch persists after trying the above, Dr Alexa recommends seeing "your eye doctor to see the main cause and if there's anything we can do to help you."

Someone in the comments recommended cutting things out for six months, writing: "How about six months? No caffeine, good sleep, no alcohol." Another recommended magnesium as good to take, which Dr Alexa recommended in another video.
A TikTok user fumed: "I'm going crazy I can't make it stop. No caffeine, no alcohol, good sleep, daily magnesium. Twitching for 11 weeks. Eye doc cleared me", followed by a shrugging shoulders emoji, and someone else said: "I have two weeks with this problem, I sleep my eight hours and still take a nap, my job is pretty chill, eyes aren't dried, no alcohol and barely drink coffee."
