Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a "deluded idea of their status on the world stage" after breaking away from the Royal Family, according to an expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back as working members of the Royal Family in 2020 and started a new life for themselves in California, where they live with their two children - Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The couple reunited with the The Firm when they flew back to the UK to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September, but they were denied a special request for their transport home.

Meghan and Harry reportedly "wanted to fly back to the US with President Biden on Air Force One", but their request is said to have been rejected.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond has said the alleged snub "points to two things".

"Firstly, they have a very grandiose and deluded idea of their status on the world stage. And, secondly, they are impervious to the sensitivities of the situation they have created by stepping back as working Royals and then firing volleys of allegations at the royal family from their Californian haven," she said.

Speaking to OK!, Jennie blasted the couple as "insensitive" for putting President Biden "in a very awkward position".

Meghan and Harry's request to fly on Air Force One was reportedly denied in case it caused a "commotion" and harmed the President's relations with the palace.

According to the Daily Mail, the request was an "immediate no" from Biden's staff, with sources saying there was barely any discussion on the issue other than it being a "non-starter".

The publication also claimed Harry and Meghan have allegedly been "trying to gain political influence in the US" and they were hoping that a flight on Air Force One would aid this.

Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard seemed to support the couple amid the claims as she took to social media to share her disbelief.

Eugenie shared a screenshot of an article claiming Meghan and Harry had been refused access to Air Force One and wrote: "This can't be real."
