Jordan Henderson appears to have been spotted filming a goodbye video for Liverpool fans ahead of his controversial transfer to Al-Ettifaq.

The Reds captain has been at Anfield since 2011 and overseen one of the most illustrious periods in the club's recent history, skippering Liverpool to the Champions League in 2019 before ending their 30-year wait for a league title the following season. His time at the club seems to have reached its end, however, as he looks to link up with former team-mate Steven Gerrard, now manager of the Saudi Arabian club.

Footage has emerged of what looks to be Henderson in the middle of the pitch at an empty Anfield with a cameraman following his every move as he looks around the stadium.

The pursuit of the 33-year-old veteran has been spearheaded by Reds icon Gerrard, who was appointed as the Saudi outfit's new head coach earlier on this summer. Fans of both clubs are still awaiting official confirmation of the switch, but it is becoming clear that Al-Ettifaq and Liverpool have reached an agreement worth £12million for Henderson's services in the Middle East.

Now that the midfielder has also now said his goodbyes at Anfield, Henderson's main focus is likely to shift to putting the finishing touches on his deal with the Saudi outfit.

The switch is one that has been met with fierce criticism, as Henderson was viewed as one of the Premier League's strongest allies for the LGBT+ community but is moving to a country where being homosexual or transgender remains illegal. Anyone who identifies as LGBT+ in Saudi Arabia can be subjected to extreme penalties.

Kop Outs, Liverpool's LGBT+ supporters group, has released a statement questioning Henderson's decision to make the move and called on the midfielder to keep the values of the Reds in mind before putting pen to paper on the deal.

"When someone's made a fortune, should money tempt them to go to work?" the group asked.

"Maybe they should be asking themselves those questions. We hope that Jordan Henderson proves to be a man of his word and stays true to the values of our club, which so far he has been an absolute embodiment of."

Manager Jurgen Klopp is yet to issue much of an update regarding the imminent transfer but did say prior to Liverpool's first pre-season friendly last week: "As long as things are not really finally decided, we don't have to talk about it.

"There will be a moment where we probably have to talk about it, but it's not now. I don't know that anything is decided, which means nothing to say in the moment. In the end, all of these decisions [over players] are made by me. And because I respect the players a lot, it’s usually with consent. It was in this case, and it is all fine."
