Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs may have discovered a new weapon ahead of defending their Super Bowl title.

The NFL AFC West team won an epic match with the Philadelphia Eagles to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy for the second time in four seasons this past February. As they prepare for another gruelling season, there is some concern regarding the fitness of wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

According to reports, the 24-year-old underwent a procedure on his knee and proceeded to aggravate the injury on Sunday when retrieving a ball kicked down the field. He will now miss some of the team’s training camp but is expected to recover in time for the start of the new season. However, the Chiefs have 2023 draft pick Rashee Rice ready to step up when his services are required.

Footage from a 7-on-7 game taking by KQ2 during training showed Mahomes throw the ball downfield in the path of the 22-year-old, who took an excellent catch. Rice was the 55th pick of the second round in the 2023 Draft and was an honorable mention in the All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) as a junior last year.

At college he recorded 96 receptions for 1,355 yards and scored 10 touchdowns during his senior year at SMU, to go with 64 receptions for 670 yards and nine touchdowns in his junior year. He opened up on learning from coach Andy Reid, who is known to push his players hard, so much so that Rice actually threw up from the amount of running he was doing.

"He's expecting us to be able to run as long as we can," Rice told reporters after practice. "I told them, to be honest with y'all, I don't mind puking. That just means I'm working as hard as I can so I won't puke no more and be ready for the games."

Having gained some experience training with the reigning Super Bowl champions ahead of the new season, Rice knows what is expected of him heading into next season. "They always tell us to come, be in shape," Rice said. "Our wide receivers, this is like a track team as far as our wide receivers group.

"So, we come knowing that we've got to be expected to run as long as, 'til the game is over, 'til practice is over." Rice opened up on his meetings with teammate and quarterback Shane Buechele during the summer break, which helped him to further study plays set out by Coach Reid.

"During the summer, through the break, I was meeting with (quarterback) Shane Buechele," Rice added. "Every day, every morning, just running routes, and putting the ball at each hash so we could work our own two-minute drills.

“Meeting with Shane during our break gave me a head start just because he is a quarterback, and he can't really take a break from the playbook. Every day I'm going to be meeting with Shane in his dorm to go over plays before the next day."
