Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai missed Liverpool’s latest pre-season friendly as a precaution.

The Reds are continuing their preparations in Germany and on Monday faced off against second division side Greuther Furth. However, they were without Szoboszlai, who signed for £60 million from RB Leipzig.

Speaking ahead of the game, Klopp suggested that his ankle issue was only minor and that had the game been a competitive one, he would have likely featured. "He rolled his ankle slightly in training, really nothing. Everybody is super-positive about it, himself first,” the Liverpool boss explained.

"If we would have today a Premier League game or whatever, he could play. So, we don't take a risk and we will see what we will do with the Leicester game after travel [and] stuff like this. But for the Bayern game he will be ready, definitely."

With Szoboszlai looking on, his new team-mates were involved in an eight-goal thriller, drawing 4-4 thanks to a late Mohamed Salah goal. Luis Diaz, fresh from links with a move to Saudi Arabia, opened the scoring, before the German side equalised in the 47th minute.

Darwin Nunez then scored a quick-fire brace, before Greuther fired back to lead 4-3 heading into the closing stages. However, a late Salah goal in the final minute of the 90 ensured the spoils were shared and their unbeaten summer schedule continued.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were not involved as the two midfielders close in on their own transfers to Saudi clubs. Henderson is understood to have completed his medical ahead of a move to Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq, while the deal for Fabinho to join Al-Ittihad is similarly advanced.

Klopp is continuing to assess his options in the middle of the park, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister given the nod this time out. But the Kop boss is insistent that there will be more arrivals before the Premier League kicks off in three weeks’ time.

"There are so many things to do," Klopp explained on the ‘We are Liverpool’ podcast. "The transfer window is open. If my day would have 28 hours at the moment it would not be a problem - I could fill them easily!

"With all the things you have to do left and right, my main focus and energy has to go into the training sessions then that's what I do. Then either side of the sessions I can try to help with other stuff.

"Still three-and-a-half weeks until the first game of the season. a few things have to happen before then, definitely, transfer market wise as well. That is clear now. And it will happen. New players have to come in. We will have a good team."

Southampton ’s Romeo Lavia is one of the names on the shortlist, with reports claiming that ‘doors are opening;’ to secure the former Man City starlet’s signature. Joao Palhinha is another name linked, but the Fulham star suffered a shoulder injury during the Cottagers’ latest friendly.
