Peter Andre has offered his support to Robbie Williams – after the former Take That star opened up about his body image hangups.

The 50-year-old Mysterious Girl star has battled body issues himself over the years – having been known for his rippling abs but then being left feeling down when his size ballooned.

Earlier this month, 49-year-old Robbie opened up about his own ongoing body dysmorphia battle as he discussed the way he sees himself versus what he sees in the mirror.

And Peter, who has been in the limelight as long as Robbie has, says he understands the pressure that his peer has been under over their decades in showbiz.

Writing in his column for OK! Magazine, Peter said: "Going through something like that can be difficult in the public eye, but I really admire his honesty.

"Robbie is a lovely guy and when you’ve got a high profile like he has, it’s good to talk so openly and for other people to relate to the problems he’s experiencing."

Last week, Robbie alarmed fans as he opened up about his weight battles.

He shared an illustration on Instagram that made reference to wanting to be thinner and he added a caption stating: "So, If a genie appeared and said you can either have your superpower be the ability to fly or eat what you want and remain at your goal weight?

"I would go for goal weight eating every day. What about you?"

He continued: "I could write a book about self-loathing where my body image is concerned. Like pure self-hatred, The ugliness of feeling ugly.

"I’m body dysmorphic and on top of being dysmorphic at times, I can be 40+ pounds overweight.

"So you can imagine what my mind sees. Or maybe you can't either way it's a f*****g disaster."

He went on: "At the moment I'm skinny... But me being me, my mind is going, 'F*****g great Rob, you managed to get skinny and now your old, congrats, golf clap'."

The singer added: "The struggle is real, the sadness shocking. I've had it all my life. And it won't abate."

Robbie’s post attracted an outpouring of support – with fellow pop singer Paloma Faith sharing her own self image struggle.

She wrote in reply: "Im exactly the same …. Sometimes when I see photos of me and im slim I can’t believe it and assume they have been photoshopped because in my mind im ALWAYS over weight and it’s exhausting.

"I wish I could be body positive but alas I’m just body negative and I’ve had two babies."

Meanwhile, Peter has previously explained how he was hit with depression when he gained three stone in the early noughties.

He wrote previously: "I was alone on a beach in the Bahamas, so I took my shirt off and went in the water. The sea was really rough and when I came out I remember I was gasping. There was some paparazzi photographer in the trees and he must have caught me breathing out.

"The photo got sent all around the world and it was the first time people had seen me like that since the early days.

"I remember the headlines – ‘Andre piles on the pack’. People who were heavier than me might have thought, ‘But he looks alright’, but in my mind I looked like Brendan Fraser in The Whale. We never see what other people see.

"Now, I’ve got this psychological link to something and it’s stopping me just freely walking around the beach – I just won’t do it. It’s ridiculous."

Pete added: "After that time on the beach, I thought, ‘I’ve got to do something’ and I started on all the fad diets – low carbs, no fats etc and you know what? For about five years, I was completely depressed because food was the one thing that I loved."
