The reporter who mocked Ange Postecoglou with a Bayern Munich shirt has been banned from Tottenham's next pre-season outing.

The north Londoners are currently in Asia as they continue their preparations for the new season, although they are being conducted amid continued uncertainty around the future of captain and talisman Harry Kane, who is being heavily linked with a switch to Bayern.

A reporter chose to jump on the speculation and took a Bayern shirt with 'Kane' printed on the back to show the new Tottenham boss. He opened by saying: "It looks quite good," only to be shut down by Postecoglou - and the Athletic reports that the journalist will not be allowed to attend Sunday's match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Tottenham's press officer quickly moved the situation on when the reporter showed off the shirt, but Postecoglou was still happy to address him. "You get a good laugh for it there? You got what you wanted?" said the Australian, before adding: "Came a long way for that."

Bayern have received a welcome boost in their pursuit of Kane having had bids rejected previously. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was ready to resist any offers and retain the striker this summer, potentially allowing him to leave for nothing in 12 months' time.

However, powers above him have made it clear that such an asset cannot be allowed to run down his contract. As a result, the club either need to sell up in the coming weeks or convince Kane to sign a new deal with a £400,000-a-week contract potentially on offer.

Kane scored 30 times in the Premier League last season, despite Tottenham's own struggles as they missed out on European football. The England star has continued to be a constant performer despite regular change in north London and their hopes of a rise back into the top four may rest on him staying.

Postecoglou is hoping that the club and the player can come to a resolution on his future, sooner rather than later. He said recently: “I think, for everyone concerned, we don’t want to be doing it for too long. I don’t think that is good for anyone. I don’t think it is good for Harry, I don’t think it is good for the club, because as laser focused as we want to be, you end up sort of repeating yourself along the way.

“But the flip side of that is I don’t want to put a deadline on it, because that adds even more pressure. You want these things to happen for the right reasons. The reality of it is he’s still a contracted player at our football club, so that’s the way I see him."
