Ultimate Team has been a staple in FIFA titles for the last few years, and some big changes look set to make the popular game mode even better in EA FC 24.

The hype surrounding EA FC 24 has officially begun, with loads of new information regarding EA's FIFA replacement being announced at the game's launch event last week. EA has already given fans a first look at EA FC 24, the first instalment in the EA Sports FC game series, and what to expect when it's released later this year.

The new HyperMotion V technology will bring huge updates to gameplay, Career Mode is set for a revamp and Pro Clubs, now named Clubs, will finally be receiving crossplay. There's a lot to be excited about, but once again, Ultimate Team looks set to take the crown as the biggest and best game mode.

Loads of new features were shown off by EA at the game's launch, where they also confirmed that women players will be coming to Ultimate Team in EA FC 24. A new card design has also been confirmed, but what other changes have been made to Ultimate Team that you may have missed?

Five EA FC 24 Ultimate Team features you may not know

Updated Icon chemistry

The updated chemistry system in FIFA 23 received a mixed reception, though a factor everyone seemed to dislike was how Icons worked in your team. In FIFA 22 and past FIFA titles, an Icon would give anyone linked to them extra chemistry, and even more if the player linked was from the same nation.

But, in FIFA 23, Icons only impacted players who were from the same nation whilst getting three chemistry points themselves. This will change for the better in EA FC 24 though, with Icons now giving every player in the starting XI one chemistry point!

This is a fantastic update from EA who have seemingly taken the communities feedback on board and improved what was a bad feature. It also makes Icons much more appealing, with players like Ferenc Puskas, Lev Yashin, George Best and Samuel Eto'o all difficult to link in FIFA 23 due to their nationalities.

No more position changes as chemistry updated

Another new feature added in FIFA 23 is set to be abolished after just one year in Ultimate Team, and that's position modifiers. The theory of position modifiers was great, but in practice, they became frustrating and to be honest, a bit pointless.

But again, EA has taken community feedback on board, and these have been removed for EA FC 24, with players automatically changing to their secondary positions when placed in that position. So no more having to apply a position modifier to move Kevin De Bruyne from CAM to CM, instead, the Belgian will automatically be changed.

This also has a huge impact on Draft, which really exposed the flawed position modifier system. In FIFA 23, you couldn't apply position modifiers in Draft so players would be left with no chemistry in the wrong positions, but in EA FC 24, the automatic move will help massively boost team chemistry.

UT Evolutions - rating upgrades and position modifiers

A new feature and what seems the best addition to Ultimate Team in years is Ultimate Team Evolutions, a new way to build the squad with the players you want. In EA FC 24, you can take that feeling of developing a hidden gem into one of the world's best from Career Mode to Ultimate Team thanks to Evolutions.

Evolutions allow players to upgrade low-rated players into some of the game's best over the course of EA FC 24, with every Ultimate Team season offering a chance for you to upgrade a player by playing games and completing objectives. For example, Manchester United starlet Alejandro Garnacho is most likely set to start EA FC 24 as a silver item, but with Evolutions, you can upgrade the player each UT season to keep him up to date with the power curve.

You may end up upgrading the player to 99 rated towards the end of the EA FC 24 cycle, who knows! Not only low-rated players but special cards can also be upgraded using Evolutions, whilst you can also change players' positions, meaning you could turn your CB Virgil van Dijk into a box-to-box CM.

There's a brand-new Ultimate Team menu

With EA leaving the FIFA name behind, it would probably be weird for the game off the pitch to look identical, wouldn't it? EA wants to give EA FC 24 its own identity, and it looks set to be that way thanks to some new, modernised menus in Ultimate Team.

Rather than the current horizontal menu with big squares of information on the screen, a new vertical orientation style will allow players to get where they want in Ultimate Team quicker, whilst you can also add shortcuts to get to your favourite pages quicker.

There's also a live video always playing in the background, showing some sort of animation to keep things fresh. Personally, I much preferred the new menus to the current FIFA 23 menu layout.

TOTW items will have PlayStyles based on players' performance

PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ are brand-new features coming to EA FC 24, replacing the traits system from FIFA 23. Using the new HyperMotion V technology whilst being powered by Opta, PlayStyles offer individuality to players by giving certain players advantages over others based on how they play in real life.

There are 34 PlayStyles that are available in total that are automatically applied to players, but in Ultimate Team, players will be able to pick up new PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ in Team of the Week (TOTW) squads. For example, say Erling Haaland scored two long-range strikes to earn himself a spot in the TOTW squad, the Norwegian will also have the Power Shot PlayStyle applied to his TOTW item, reflecting his real-life performance.
